ALG praises FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioner Brendan Carr for endorsing Sprint-T-Mobile merger

May 20, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioner Brendan Carr for endorsing the Sprint-T-Mobile merger:

“Today’s statements of support for the Sprint-T-Mobile merger from both Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai and subsequently from Commissioner Brendan Carr represent a major step toward approval of this important consolidation which significantly expands the availability and build out speed for the next generation of wireless communications.

“America would be cast into an almost permanent economic disadvantage in competing for future business without widely available, competitively priced 5G technology and today’s announcement brings our nation one-step closer to a near nationwide buildout (99 percent) within five years of the final merger approval.  This ensures that rural areas, which have been consistently left behind when it comes to Internet speed, gain the advantages of 5G within a short time window which is essential to growing economic opportunities in these, many times, forgotten areas.

“Today’s statements by Chairman Pai and Commissioner Carr affirms a determination that no one will be left behind when it comes to the 21st century economy, and they are commended for taking this important step forward.”

Steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico dropped by Trump, jump starting trade deal in Congress

May 17, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to end the steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada and Mexico:

“President Trump has agreed to lift the steel and aluminum tariffs that were placed on products coming from Canada and Mexico, with those countries agreeing to lift retaliatory tariffs on products like pork and dairy in no later than 48 hours.

“The steel and aluminum tariffs were initially imposed on Canada and Mexico as a means to deal with China and other countries dumping these metals into our northern and southern bordering countries in order to flood our markets and destroy our domestic aluminum and steel industries.

“Today’s agreement retains the ability of the US government to impose future aluminum and steel tariffs if the situation warrants action in the future.

“Earlier this month, Senate Financial Services Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, urged that the Canada and Mexico aluminum and steel tariff issue be dealt with in order to facilitate passage of the President’s landmark modernization of NAFTA, known as USMCA.

“The renegotiation of the tri-lateral trade agreement between Canada, Mexico and the United States is the lynchpin of the Trump trade agenda as it includes intellectual property and forced technology transfer language, along with currency manipulation prohibitions which will be incorporated in future trade bills with other nations.

“The White House has submitted the trade deal to Congress where it awaits action.  It is anticipated that clearing away the aluminum and steel tariff concerns will create momentum for passage of the trade deal.”

Facebook violate Candace Owens’ civil rights

Facebook violates Candace Owens’ civil rights

DOJ investigation and prosecution urged

May 17, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division to investigate Facebook for discriminating against Candace Owens on the basis of race and sex by suspending her account:

“Is Facebook a public accommodation under federal civil rights law? Candace Owens, a young, black, conservative woman has been suspended on Facebook for expressing the opinion that liberal policies encourage black fatherless households that contribute to black poverty. It is obvious that Ms. Owens is being discriminated against because she is an African-American woman who is challenging liberal orthodoxy.

“Facebook has also come under attack for allowing discriminatory conduct by those using their platform to sell and rent homes. Some might argue that as a private platform Facebook is immune from this type of fair housing civil rights violation, however, case law says something different. Under the Fair Housing Act, realtors cannot selectively show houses on the basis of race. The Facebook advertising product clearly falls within civil rights law.

“The U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division has a responsibility to investigate Facebook for the Owens case of racial discrimination. In one instance, it is racial discrimination of opportunity in fair housing. And the other, it is racial discrimination by a public accommodation, Facebook, and should be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Trump immigration plan puts America first

May 16, 2019, Fairfax, Va.–Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in support of President Donald Trump’s immigration plan:

“The framework laid out by the President today is a smart way forward and it is important that Democrats support it and securing the border in a humane way, build a merit-based system and move away from family chain migration. Any attempts to add amnesty or other poison pill provisions would be an admission that Democrats are unwilling to work on basic issues of common ground on securing the border, reforming our broken system and treating immigrants humanely. The President’s plan puts America first and American workers first.”

President Trump should issue scientific transparency in regulations executive order

May 10, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging President Donald Trump to issue an executive order requiring scientific transparency when regulations are issued:

“President Donald Trump is draining the swamp in Washington, D.C. through a series of regulatory reforms. To help this along, Americans for Limited Government urges the White House to incorporate scientific transparency in the rulemaking process in order to ensure every regulation is based on science that is both reproducible and made public. To accomplish this, we urge the President to issue an executive order mandating that federal agencies adhere to science that can be falsified with data being made public before issuing regulations that impact the U.S. economy.”

House Dems wrong to continue blocking border wall building

May 8, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the House Freedom Caucus for standing in the way of any military construction bill that attempts to defund the southern border wall:

“Americans for Limited Government praises the House Freedom Caucus’ move to oppose military construction funding if it contains language blocking building the wall on the southern border. Democrats cannot have it both ways. After shutting down the government for 35 days to stop wall funding, they have recently concluded that there is a crisis at the border after all. In spite of this late to the game recognition, the fact is this flood of more than 100,000 illegals a month being apprehended on our southern border is a national security disaster. Unfortunately, now the same Democrats are trying to stop the military from being able to construct the wall that is needed to prevent a portion of these illegal entries. The House Freedom Caucus’ leadership in opposing this irresponsible prohibition will hopefully serve as a wakeup call to their colleagues in the Republican conference but also to any Democrat members who recognize both the humanitarian and security danger of the currently open border. ”

ALG supports Attorney General William Barr

May 8, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the House Judiciary Committee holding Attorney General William Barr in contempt:

“It is astonishing that House Democrats continue to cling to their desperate, phony conspiracy theory that President Trump is a Russian agent when the Mueller report found no conspiracy with Russia by any Americans. It is apparently lost on them that grand jury testimony is not for public dissemination under the law for the very specific reason that in America we have a presumption of innocence, and it is inherently unfair to everyone who testified over the past two years under the legal certainty of secrecy that it would be cavalierly exposed by shameless politicians.

“It is clear that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler is intent on keeping his boast that he will impeach President Trump made on an Amtrak train over an unsecured line and overheard by a reporter sitting on the train. Facts don’t matter to Nadler, only politics, and this latest attempt to smear Attorney General William Barr is designed to accomplish two purposes. First and most obviously, the Democrats continue to refuse to acknowledge that Trump is the President of the United States and are using virtually any means necessary to oust him. Second and more importantly, Nadler and the Democrats need to discredit Attorney General Barr in advance of his investigation to get to the bottom of the origins of the fake Russia collusion claims. The obvious fear is that the truth will come out without having discredited the messenger, Barr, in advance.

“Americans for Limited Government urges Barr to hold firm and get to the bottom of this mess. We can never again tolerate our domestic intelligence services engaging in political spying and a blatant attempt to not only influence an election, but to overturn its results.”

ALG urges House to reject H.R. 312 that guts Indian Gaming Regulatory Act

May 8, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the House to reject H.R. 312 in a vote:

“The House of Representatives should reject H.R. 312, the Senator Elizabeth Warren-led attempt to punch piecemeal holes through the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.  This isn’t about the ability of tribes using land that is part of their long-established heritage for casino development, but instead it is about whether Congress should place gambling institutions on unrelated land based upon proximity to urban areas.  If Senator Warren and her benefactors wish to change the Indian Gaming laws, they should introduce wholesale reforms rather than turning the existing law into Swiss cheese for nothing more than investor pecuniary interests.”
