Fairfax, Va. – In response to a hearing today in the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology Rick Manning, president of Americans for Limited Government, issued the following statement:

“What we heard in this hearing should trouble every American. Our nation was founded on the belief that a free and independent press is the greatest defense against government tyranny. By demanding private companies censor media outlets they disagree with, House Democrats are threatening the fundamental precept of the First Amendment that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…” These politicians are undermining our foundational freedoms in the most profound way. It is shocking to see elected officials in America embrace the tactics of authoritarian regimes such as those of the Chinese Communist Party of China, Iran and North Korea.

“This is an abuse of power and every American should publicly denounce the Democrat’s censorship campaign aimed at silencing all political opposition. Freedom-loving Americans everywhere are afraid of being canceled on social media and even losing their jobs because of this destructive woke culture.

“For the past four years, establishment media outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, NBC News, and on and on have reported on the false narrative of Russian collusion. Should they all be deplatformed? The answer is a resounding, ‘No.’ It is not the government’s role to silence free speech, even when it is consistently and egregiously wrong like these major outlets have proven to be time and again.

“Like the Founding Fathers, I trust the American people are smart enough to see through the fake news and determine what is true. And in this case, it is clear House Democrats are pursuing a dangerous, un-American course that will destroy our freedoms.”

Manning: Kerry clearly violated Logan Act, must be fired and prosecuted

Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging President Joe Biden to fire John Kerry and for the Justice Department to investigate Kerry for secretly negotiating with the Iranian government in 2018:

“John Kerry secretly negotiated with the Iranian government in 2018 in a bid to undermine U.S. policy and sanctions against Tehran, and at a minimum President Joe Biden should fire him.

“According former FBI agent Peter Strzok’s hand-written notes from the Jan. 5, 2017 Oval Office meeting in the Obama White House, then-Vice President Biden called for prosecuting Gen. Michael Flynn under the Logan Act for allegedly negotiating with Russia while serving as the incoming National Security Advisor during the Trump transition in 2016.

“As a private citizen with no official government authority, Kerry engaged in secret, unauthorized negotiations with Iran while President Trump was in office and should be investigated by the FBI.  It is reported that Kerry sought to undermine U.S. interests in sensitive international negotiations – a clear violation of the Logan Act. If Gen. Flynn could be investigated by the Muller special prosecutor team for his legal contact under the guise of a potential Logan Act violation, then Kerry should have the full weight of law thrown at him for doing substantial damage to U.S. foreign policy.

“Americans already believe we have a two-tiered justice system, one for favored political elites, and another for the rest of Americans. If Biden is unwilling to fire and prosecute Kerry, it further divides our country.”

“This is a great step toward providing a counterbalance to the Silicon Valley techno-fascists who are intent on stopping any speech that they don’t like. Over the many weeks since Parler was taken down by a combination of Apple, Google and Amazon to the applause of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, America has witnessed a brazen collaboration by tech giants to stop mainstream voices from objecting to their radical, extremist agenda.  Facebook took down actor Kevin Sorbo’s page this weekend for the sin of posting honest and funny critiques of Biden policies.  Twitter is de-platforming people so fast that it is impossible to keep up and YouTube is running a virtual jihad against content that has the audacity to not toe their collectivist ideology.

Covid numbers show this is not about saving lives, it’s about power

Fairfax, Va. – According to the Associated Press, the Biden administration is considering imposing domestic travel restrictions, including on Florida, citing concerns of coronavirus mutations.

Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning had the following reaction:

“Florida has a dramatically lower Covid death rate than states such as New York and New Jersey. In fact, Florida’s Covid death is below the national average.  What’s more, the top five states with people who have had Covid are California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Illinois, which just so happen to be the five most populous states in the country. Of those states, New York and California and Illinois are for basically economically closed, while Texas and Florida are open. The Covid outcomes in Texas and Florida are significantly better than their closed counterparts.

“If the current occupant of the Oval Office wants to follow the science, he should issue an executive order demanding that all of the closed states reopen, as it is clear that destroying a state’s economy has nothing to do with saving lives and everything to do with power.

“Of course, if he did that, he’d be admitting that his predecessor was right and that the ‘dark winter’ that he predicted doesn’t have to come.”

All gubernatorial emergency orders should be canceled and instead be presented to the legislatures for their approval

Fairfax, Va. –  The cold reality is setting in that the Covid virus is no longer a short term  emergency, but an ongoing problem.  Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning is urging state lawmakers to take a leadership role in addressing Covid and to stop deferring to executive orders from governors. He issued the following statement:

“State emergency orders are supposed to be for short time events where the legislature is unavailable to meet to consider appropriate alternatives. They are not an excuse for state executives to become mini-dictators. Most state legislatures either are in session or will be in session in the weeks ahead and as a result all gubernatorial emergency orders should be canceled and instead be presented to the legislatures for their approval. It is unconscionable for governors to cut elected state representatives out of the decision-making process. It is time to recognize that Covid is no longer an emergency and instead should be treated as an on-going problem which should be incorporated into normal spending and budget calculations.”

Feb. 5, 2021, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the Senate rejecting on a 50-50 vote an amendment by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) that would have blocked emergency Covid relief funds to schools that refuse to reopen even after teachers have been vaccinated:

“It is inexcusable for Senate Democrats to endorse the government sanctioned child abuse by local teachers unions who refuse to teach under any circumstances.  The fact that Senate Democrats refused to deny federal monies to schools which refuse to reopen even though the teachers have been vaccinated is an admission that when it comes to public education, Democrats believe that the needs of children are the lowest priority.”
