AG Jeff Sessions praised for AT&T-Time Warner antitrust scrutiny

Nov. 8, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Attorney General Jeff Sessions for leading the charge to apply robust antitrust scrutiny to the AT&T-Time Warner merger by requiring either the sale of Directv or Turner Broadcasting, which includes CNN:

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ leadership of the Department of Justice has ensured that concerns over the AT&T-Time Warner merger are being heavily scrutinized. President Trump expressed these same concerns in Oct. 2016 when he was running for president and Attorney General Sessions is making certain that the proposed merger meets the letter and spirit of antitrust laws. The reported demand that either Turner Broadcasting, which includes CNN, or Directv be removed from the deal is reasonable in order to prevent to keep separate news content from dominant content delivery vehicles.”

Fusion collusion with Veselnitskaya proves Trump, Jr. meeting was a set up

Nov. 7, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement reacting to the revelation that Fusion GPS CEO Glenn Simpson met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya both before and after her meeting with Donald Trump, Jr. in June 2016:

“Today’s report that Fusion GPS CEO Glenn Simpson met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya both before and after her meeting with Donald Trump, Jr. in June 2016 is breathtaking. It is clear the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign paid for a consultant who was using Russians in an attempt to create the appearance of collusion through false offers of dirt on Hillary Clinton. Even the Closseau-like Robert Mueller should be able to piece this together and see that Fusion GPS is at the center of his investigation into the 2016 election.

“It is also reasonable to assume that the Clinton campaign did not receive any information from that meeting that they deemed relevant in the campaign, except for the meeting itself, or else they would have used it. If taking a meeting with Russians is deemed a criminal act, then Simpson and everyone else who used Russian sources for the dossier, including the Clinton campaign since they paid for it, should apparently be in jail. It should also be clear to anyone with an ounce of honest blood flowing through their veins that the entire foundation of the Mueller investigation is based on a manufactured concept. If taking a meeting is criminalized, no one in Washington, D.C. can be exempt from Mueller’s witch hunt. It’s time to close Robert Mueller’s desperate search for criminality where none exists.”

This is CNN: Fake News

Nov. 6, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement blasting CNN for butchering a quote from President Donald Trump in Japan speaking to business leaders there where he actually said “I also want to recognize the business leaders in the room whose confidence in the United States — they’ve been creating jobs — you have such confidence in the United States, and you’ve been creating jobs for our country for a long, long time. Several Japanese automobile industry firms have been really doing a job. And we love it when you build cars — if you’re a Japanese firm, we love it — try building your cars in the United States instead of shipping them over” praising automakers for making cars in the U.S. into a quote where he was somehow criticizing them for not doing so:

“Once again, this is CNN, reporting an apple is a banana, turning a quote that clearly shows President Trump praising Japanese automakers for making cars in America for years into an allegation that he was unaware of that fact.

“Not even Hillary Clinton’s DNC would have tried to be this dishonest at the height of the campaign season.

“In light of this latest malfeasance by CNN, it is stunning that Time Warner, the owners of CNN, would expect their proposed merger with AT&T to be approved by the Department of Justice. The AT&T-Time Warner merger would provide a profit motive for the promotion of CNN’s fake news, and that would truly be bad for America.”

Attorney General Sessions never recused himself from Uranium One

Nov. 3, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to press reports stating that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had recused himself from the Uranium One case:

“Americans for Limited Government has learned from an unimpeachable source that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has not recused himself from the Uranium One case. The fact that the Attorney General ended the non-disclosure agreement for the Uranium One whistleblower provides the proof that Sessions is actively involved the Uranium One case. Unfortunately, the Attorney General cannot conduct any investigations through press releases and sound bites allowing the rest of us to receive a blow by blow description of every action that might be under way. Suffice to say, the Attorney General is in the game on Uranium One, contrary to some reports.”

ALG praises DOJ consideration of antitrust lawsuit against AT&T-Time Warner merger

Nov. 2, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising reports that the Justice Department may be pursuing an antitrust lawsuit to stop the AT&T-Time Warner merger:

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Justice Department are moving forward with keeping one of the Trump’s key campaign promises by carefully considering an antitrust lawsuit to block the AT&T-Time Warner merger. This is a move in the right direction and absolutely necessary to stop the merger. The immense power via consolidation that AT&T and Time Warner would wield post-merger threatens the First Amendment rights of every American. By considering this lawsuit against the AT&T-Time Warner merger, once again, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is doing the right thing for America.”

Information provided to a campaign is not and cannot be a campaign donation

Nov. 1, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to Campaign Legal Center senior director of trial litigation Adav Noti’s statement that “if a campaign solicits or accepts opposition research without paying for it, the value of that research constitutes a solicitation for, or an in-kind contribution to, the campaign”:

“The absurdity of the position taken by the failed opponent of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, Adav Noti, is an incredible leap, contending that information given to a political campaign somehow constitutes an in-kind contribution. By that standard, every FEC report would have to become a bibliography of all information ever received by a campaign on an opposing candidate. Any free mention of an opposing candidate, positive or negative, with real or fictitious information, solicited or accepted to a campaign, in the media or elsewhere, foreign or domestic, would apparently need to be accounted for. That would apply even if the information is never even actually received or if received if it was ever even used. Every reporter who received a tip about a campaign and brought it to another campaign’s attention to get a react might need to be reported to the FEC by the campaign. Subscriptions to third party newsletters providing information on opposing candidates might have to be reported. Use of free third party services such as search engines providing information might have to be reported. All emails received by a campaign from third parties providing information might have to be reported. It is absurd. Under this extreme vision that speech is money, the only people who would not be allowed to get unpaid-for information on opposing candidates from third parties would be political campaigns because it would be practically impossible to account for.

“The fact is, information, which is First Amendment protected speech, has never been treated as a contribution by the FEC that could be prohibited if not properly accounted for or coming from a foreign source, nor should it, because of the burdens it would place on the exercise of constitutionally protected speech.”

Was the Trump campaign set up with offers of ‘dirt’ on Hillary Clinton?

Oct. 31, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement noting the pattern appearing in the special counsel probe where Trump campaign officials were offered Hillary Clinton ‘dirt’ at least three times from sources purporting to be Russia:

“It looks like the Trump campaign was being set up with these meetings and repeated offers of Hillary Clinton ‘dirt’ under false pretenses from sources purporting to represent Russia. The question is who was perpetrating the fraud? There were three instances where Trump campaign people were reportedly offered ‘dirt’ on Hillary Clinton in order to entice meetings that were not what they appeared to be. That is no coincidence, it is a pattern. This Hillary Clinton ‘dirt’ was reportedly offered in the cases of George Papadopoulos, who appeared in the special counsel probe, Carter Page, who appeared in the Fusion GPS-Christopher Steele dossier, and Donald Trump, Jr., who was baited into the meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. According to Bill Browder, Veselnitskaya once hired Fusion GPS to do a dirty dossier on him, similar to the one that was put on then-candidate for president Donald Trump. If not Russia, then it is Fusion GPS who House and Senate investigators must question to get to the bottom of who was trying to set up the Trump campaign — and why?”

On Halloween, Group Calls on President Trump to Fire Obama’s Zombie Regulators and Repeal, Freeze Obama-era Regulations

October 31, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—On Halloween, Americans for Limited Government released an ad today to encourage President Trump to take action and remove Obama-era “zombie” regulators that are still wreaking regulatory havoc on the lives of Americans and the economy. The ad also calls on President Trump and his Administration to repeal or freeze Obama-era regulations.

“There is absolutely no excuse for these Obama regulators to continue working on the public dime,” said Richard Manning, President, Americans for Limited Government. “It’s time for Trump to say ‘you’re fired’ to these dangerous, regulation-loving agency heads so that his Administration can continue to keep our economy moving and government out of people’s wallets and pocketbooks.”

The ad cites Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray and Federal House Finance Agency Director, Mel Watt. In the spirit of Halloween, the ad likens these Obama-era regulators to zombies, as they have outlived the end of the Obama administration.

Mueller should resign as special counsel as charges unrelated to 2016 election campaign

Oct. 30, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the indictment of Paul Manafort and Richard Gates:

“Robert Mueller should resign as special counsel. His indictments of Paul Manafort and Richard Gates have nothing to do with the 2016 Trump campaign or election generally. Mueller’s charges predate Manafort’s involvement in the Trump campaign and even the Trump campaign itself. The charges all falls outside the scope of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ original recusal from anything to do with the election campaign, and there is no reason for a special counsel in this case which could have been brought any U.S. Attorney. If Mueller refuses to resign for going beyond the scope of his mandate, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein should require his work to be turned over to the Justice Department for normal handling.

“The precedent that involvement in U.S. presidential campaign will subject you to a prosecutorial proctology exam covering your entire work history is unacceptable. However, Mueller’s Clouseau-like inability to see the Hillary Clinton mound of Russia-related corruption that surrounded the Uranium One deal, the Christopher Steele dossier and the DNC supposed hack disqualifies him from further service in this area.”

Don Todd: The Dossier Is Not Opposition Research

Oct. 27, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government Foundation President Don Todd today issued the following statement blasting the Hillary Clinton campaign and DNC-funded Fusion GPS-Christopher Steele dossier:

“I have been doing opposition research since 1978.  My resume includes four Presidential campaigns, nearly one hundred Senate campaigns and a few Governor races. I was the oppo team leader in all of them. I can say with absolute certainty the so-called dossier is not opposition research it is raw political sewage for which the idiot Democrats may have paid over one hundred sixty thousand dollars a page.  To call it oppo research is an insult to me and the many I have worked with over the years.

“Real political research is about issues that people care about not made up stories about bed peeing.  Had I ever come up with such a document I am sure I would have summarily and rightfully fired.”
