Missouri AG Eric Schmitt fights for 2A rights against FBI

Aug. 11, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government Richard Manning today released the following statement responding to Missouri AG Eric Schmidt’s July 13 letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray pledging to fight FBI attempts to illegally obtain private information of concealed carry permit holders in the state:

“Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s defense of the privacy and individual right to keep and bear arms of the people of the Show Me state is a model for how the top law enforcement officer of a state should respond to unlawful actions by federal law enforcement.

“Upon learning that the FBI intended to come to counties in Missouri to harvest individual concealed carry permit information in direct violation of state law, which explicitly prohibits the sharing of this information with ‘federal, state or private entities’. Schmitt sent a blistering letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray promising to fight him ‘tooth and nail with all the resources the people have given me as their Attorney General.’

“AG Schmitt excoriated the FBI for abuses of power which have cost them the trust of the people citing their targeting of parents of school children who showed up to express concerns to their local school boards, the on-going six-year-long witch-hunt against President Trump and the ‘sitting on evidence of criminal activity on Hunter Biden’s laptop’ as proof of the untrustworthiness of the once respected Agency.’

“Schmitt reminded Wray of the recent U.S. Supreme Court 6-3 decision in the New York Rifle and Pistol Association case which strongly affirmed the individual right to BEAR arms stating that it shall not be infringed.  In telling the FBI that the state of Missouri would not stand for the ‘targeting’ of Missouri gun owners, Schmitt drew a line in the sand that every other state Attorney General should follow.

“I often criticize politicians of both political parties for failing to have the courage to stand up in the fight to maintain and restore individual liberty in America.  Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt is a shining example of what liberty lovers who hold positions of power should do to stand up against federal abuses of power.”

Biden recession causes inflation to pause

Aug. 10, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest consumer inflation numbers:

“The price of oil has gone down worldwide due to the recognition that we are in a global recession and demand is beginning to collapse. If President Biden wants to take credit for lower gas prices (the heart of the inflation decrease), then he has to acknowledge the recession that is actually responsible for them. The irony of today’s reduction of year over year inflation from 9.1 percent to 8.5 percent is that this reduction is twice as large as the 0.3 percent reduction to inflation that was projected by Moody’s Analytics in the $700 billion so-called Inflation Reduction Act. For those who have paid attention to what’s in the bill, unlike the President, it raises taxes on oil producers and creates a financial disincentive for domestic production of oil, meaning long term, after this recession, the legislation will net an ultimate increase of the price at the pump, and make our nation even more dependent on Biden’s fist-bumping friend in Saudi Arabia.”

FBI Raid is an unconscionable breech of the basic liberties

Aug. 9, 2022, Fairfax, Va- Rick Manning, president of Americans for Limited Government, responded to the Biden FBI raid on former President Donald J. Trump’s residence

“This raid is an unconscionable breech of the basic liberties guaranteed all Americans and the FBI itself may not survive its implications.  GOP members of Congress have no choice but to shut this politically weaponized investigation down completely. Not another dime should be authorized for continuing either the House January 6th Committee or the Department of Justice’s on-going political persecution of President Trump and anyone who worked with him. THe ugly truth is that if tonight does not send a chill down every honest American’s spine than nothing will. This is a dark, dark day in American history from which I pray we can recover.”

Is the July unemployment report a last gasp?

Aug. 5, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest jobs numbers:

“The summary of the household employment data provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics misses the point on the July unemployment report. They write, ‘the unemployment rate edged down to 3.5%, and the number of unemployed persons edged down to 5.7 million. These measures have returned to their levels in February 2020, prior to the coronavirus pandemic.’ The problem is that the civilian population is more than 2.2 million higher today than in February 2020 and the civilian workforce is 1.8 million people smaller than prior to the pandemic.  Additionally, there are 576,000 fewer employed today than prior to the pandemic, meaning that the employment economy is actually nowhere near pre-pandemic levels.

“It is good news that the number of unemployed shrank by 242,000 below Feb. 2020, this good news is at least partially attributable to the 239,000 people left the workforce entirely in July and that the overall percentage of Americans in the workforce went down, but anytime fewer people are unemployed that is a good thing.

“The establishment survey shows that more than half million jobs were filled, which confirms the June Job Openings and Labor Turnover survey’s findings that existing job openings are declining rapidly.  The most interesting finding in this study is that home construction employment is up and seemingly doing very well.  This contradicts other reports that new home starts are lagging.

“It can be anticipated that the Biden administration will crow over this jobs report, while ignoring the fact that more and more Americans are being laid off each week with the effects being absorbed by labor starved employers. The four-month continued rise in unemployment claims signals that the July jobs report is more likely the last bloom before a barren fall and winter, than any renaissance offsetting the recession the economy finds itself in.”

Initial unemployment claims creep up to 260,000

Aug. 4, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest weekly unemployment claims data:

“President Biden’s bitter clinging to the idea that the United States economy is not in recession rests solely on joblessness in America.  Today’s Labor Department weekly unemployment insurance claims report shows the continued weakening of the jobs economy as the number of claims jumped to 260,000 for the final week of July.  In the past four months, initial weekly claims have climbed by 99,000 as the number of layoffs quietly escalate across the nation. The number of Americans who are dependent upon unemployment insurance still remains below, 1.5 million as the drop in numbers of people in the workforce has contributed to many available jobs remaining unfilled.”

Biden’s ‘transition’ is economic pain through recession

July 29, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s July 28 statement, “Statement by President Biden on Second Quarter GDP Report,” that “we will come through this transition stronger and more secure”:

“President Biden is trying to cast the current recession as little more than a ‘transition’ as if this word makes it better in some way.  Thesaurus.com has some handy synonyms for the White House’s new favorite word, transition.   Transformation is one – as in fundamental transformation. Upheaval, turning point, evolution, conversion, changeover are all other synonyms.  So when you hear the left using transition to describe the economic results and pain of their policies, feel free to insert any of the above synonyms to really hear what they mean.

“Of course, when I, and anyone familiar with what the ‘Big Guy’ is up to think of Joe Biden, another ‘trans’ word comes to mind – ‘transactional.’ I’m sure they don’t want you to hear that when they attempt to gloss over the deliberate destruction of the United States economy as a ‘transition.’”

Biden’s recession is here and now

July 28, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the Bureau of Economic Analysis’ report showing the second quarterly decline in a row of real, inflation-adjusted Gross Domestic Product, with GDP contracting by another 0.9 percent in the second quarter of 2022:

“The United States economy is officially in a recession with the past two quarters contraction being reported by the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis.  Most Americans already knew that the economy was in trouble due to the forty-year high inflation that has bloomed due to unnecessary federal government spending splurges since December of 2020, intractable supply chain issues that are exacerbated by a Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg,  who is more interested in his next hoped for job than the one he currently holds, and U.S. based multinationals obstinate insistence in having their supply chains dependent upon the Chinese Communist Party rulers of mainland China.

“Joe Biden and his apologists will try to blame everyone from Putin to businesses for this economic contraction, but the ugly truth is that recession was the only possible outcome of his fundamental transformation policies which are putting a regulatory chokehold on domestic production.  Democrats used to depend upon blue collar workers and the unions that represent them for their electoral success, and Joe Biden might be the last Democrat presidential candidate elected who outwardly appealed to workers in hard hats.  Unfortunately, his administration’s determination to sentence America to global dependency, most notably but not only in the energy sector, is an economic death sentence to much of middle-class America.

“The Biden administration’s determination to outsource all environmental risk is guaranteed to outsource all of the jobs that come with that risk.  Joe Biden argues that there cannot be a recession without job losses.  What will he say when the full impact of his policies trickle down to workers later this year when the unemployment lines are the only things that are growing.  I hope this does not happen, but it is the inevitable consequence of an administration at war with the engine of the American economy.”

Jobless claims point to Biden recession

July 21, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest unemployment claims numbers:

“The U.S. Labor Department reported that the steady climb of initial unemployment claims continued last week to 251,000 newly unemployed up from 244,000 the week prior.  Since April 2022, the number of new weekly unemployment claims has risen by 85,000 from 166,000 to 251,000.  The chart doesn’t lie.  From July 2 to July 9, the number of Americans on unemployment insurance has increased on a net basis by a non-seasonally adjusted 122,000 to 1.45 million.  President Joe Biden’s sole claim to economic success has been our nation’s low unemployment rate, but the economic pressures put onto employers by the inflation caused Biden’s war on oil, natural gas and food production is putting an end to this one bright spot.

“The first week of July signaled the beginning of the end of the jobs economy, and unfortunately, today’s report does nothing to change this forecast as our nation slides into a Biden policy induced recession.”

Congress must hold the federal bureaucracy accountable

House Government Reform and Oversight Committee is holding a hearing meant to highlight government employee productivity today. Subcommittee Chairman Gerald Comley (D-public employee union) is supposed to highlight a positive story about public employee work ethic during the pandemic. The Biden Whitehouse Director of Office of Management and Budget and the Director of Office of Personnel Management are both scheduled to testify. It is unlikely that Conley will ask these Biden officials about a study that found that 25 percent of Department of Health and Human Services employees failed to logion to their emails even a single time during the height of the pandemic between March and December 2020.

Congress must hold the federal bureaucracy accountable by forcing an audit to determine how many taxpayer-paid (workers) stole their pay by failing to check-in with the office once in ten months. You cannot implement a work-from-home policy if you do not hold those who violated the public trust accountable.

Biden attempts to repair U.S.-Saudi relations that he damaged

July 15, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement responding to President Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia:

“President Joe Biden decided on day one of his administration to effectively declare war on Saudi Arabia. He did this by canceling the sale of defensive weapons like patriot missiles, ending the terrorist designation of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, and undermining the Abraham accord by reinstating tariffs on U.A.E. aluminum.

“Now, Biden claims that he wants to establish better relationships between Israel and Saudi Arabia. President Trump already did that, and Joe Biden cannot pretend that he has done anything except fund Iranian terrorism aimed at taking down the House of Saud.

“I hope that President Biden has a successful meeting in Saudi Arabia., However, any problems or pushback he receives are the sour fruits of his disastrous middle eastern policy.”
