Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest state jobs numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“It should be no surprise that states with Democrat governors who have imposed some of the most draconian economic shutdowns are suffering the highest unemployment rates, according to a just released report by the U.S. Labor Department.

“According to the report: ‘Nevada had the highest unemployment rate in August, 13.2 percent, followed by Rhode Island, 12.8 percent, and Hawaii and New York, 12.5 percent each.  Nebraska had the lowest rate, 4.0 percent, followed by Utah, 4.1 percent and Idaho, 4.2 percent.’

“Nevada, Rhode Island, Hawaii and New York have had notoriously harsh shutdown edicts by their respective governors, while Nebraska, Utah and Idaho, all with GOP governors, have pushed a balanced approach to the Chinese COVID crisis, protecting both public health and their state’s economies.

“It is a dead certain bet that Democrat governors are sabotaging our nation’s national economic recovery through their misguided shutdowns. The Trump economic rebound has been largely accomplished without the participation of Democratically controlled states.  It is a crime that Democrats continue to put electoral politics over the well-being of their own constituents. Denying their citizens jobs is hurting their people economically, physically, and mentally.”

Sept. 11, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement of attempts by a Chinese company, J Capital Research to short the Northern Dynasty Minerals stock which owns Pebble Mine:

“A Chinese company that has placed a stock market bet against the development of the Pebble Mine has not surprisingly put out a report attacking the viability of the mining plan.  The battle over the development of the Alaska mine has been at the center of a high profile environmentalist opposition campaign funded by people determined to end the US mineral extraction industry altogether.

“I have been to where Pebble Mine will be, and let me make this clear, if you cannot develop a mind in this desolate location, you will never develop another mine in America.

“There is no surprise that a Chinese firm would be trying to submarine the mine’s future. China has long sought to dominate ownership of rare earth minerals and recently it has been discovered that Pebble Mine would produce a large quantity of a rare earth metal, rhenium, which is instrumental in building aircraft engines. Rare earths are essential for the production of many military and high tech items, and attempts by a Chinese short seller to undermine Pebble Mine should be rejected out of hand.

“Of course, the ultimate irony is the joining of environmentalists and China in opposing a U.S. mine.  Once again we find that many in the environmental establishment are willing to turn a blind eye toward the environmental disaster that is China while seeking to end the development of necessary extraction competitors.  This unholy alliance makes China stronger and the world less safe as the Communist Chinese government would hold the keys to the materials necessary to build our most sophisticated weapons systems, subjecting our nation’s leaders to coercion.

No President should want to create a national panic, and his stated desire to avoid that to Bob Woodward in a candid interview, while publicly taking strong measures to meet the crisis is what leadership looks like. The more we know about the virus itself, the more it’s clear engaging in quarantines for vulnerable populations makes sense, but for those who are not vulnerable, the President is right to assuage their fears so that America as much as possible can get back to normal.”

“Democrat vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris has some serious questions to answer about her family’s business dealings with China.

“Her husband, Douglas Emhoff, is a partner in DLA Piper’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice, a firm with extensive ties to China.

“Given that China’s intellectual property theft is one of our primary trade issues, it is disconcerting, at best, if her husband has been assisting the Communist Chinese Party in getting around our patent laws.

“What’s more, DLA Piper is directly involved in the financial integration of the United States with China at a time when Americans are demanding that supply chains for items like pharmaceutical products be brought home from China and that our retirement  accounts and other individual investments be protected from unsafe Chinese assets.

“There’s a good bet Hidin’ Joe Biden will be holed-up in the basement of his Rehoboth Beach house on Labor Day and we want to get his attention,” said Rick Manning, president of ALG. “As vice president, Joe Biden brokered a sweetheart deal with China that could blow up the retirement accounts of millions of hard-working Americans by poisoning them with unaudited, risky Chinese assets. We want Joe to know his China collusion at the expense of Americans is coming to an end.”

Background on Biden’s Sweetheart China Deal

In 2013, Biden orchestrated a deal with the Chinese Communist Party giving Chinese companies access to U.S. capital markets without having to comply with the same strict disclosure regulations required of U.S. companies.  This puts the retirement accounts of millions of Americans at risk because investors have no way of knowing the true value of any of those Chinese investments.

As a result of Biden putting his thumb on the scales in favor of China, as of Feb. 2019, 156 Chinese companies were listed on U.S. exchanges with a market capitalization of $1.2 trillion, according to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

Under the terms of the Obama-Biden Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which came after a series of meetings between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping (then-Vice President) in 2011 and 2012, U.S. regulators have very little ability to “open the kimono” and look into the books of these Chinese companies.

“There’s no telling when Biden’s ticking time bomb could decimate the retirement savings of millions of Americans,” concluded Manning. “This aerial campaign is just one way that we are moving forward with to inform Americans about Biden’s China-first record.”
