Going across state lines will lower insurance costs

Oct. 9, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the Trump administration, which is reportedly proposing to go across state lines for insurance purchases via executive and regulatory action:

“Allowing across state lines health insurance sales should make lower cost insurance options for all Americans. In light of Congress’ failure to rescind both the individual and employer mandates, plus Obamacare regulations, the Trump administration regulatory action promises to provide a meaningful, affordable alternative to both individuals and employers bogged down in higher costs. While the devil is in the details, at first blush, President Trump’s forward-looking action will hopefully break the logjam in Congress while protecting the most vulnerable Americans from exorbitant health insurance costs.”

Ending Clean Power Plan paves way for cheaper electricity, growth

Oct. 9, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt for announcing that the Obama so-called Clean Power Plan is being withdrawn:

“The new and existing coal power plant rules under the Clean Power Plan was the Obama administration’s key to the war on coal, resulting in plant shutdowns across the country including the Ohio River Valley. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s announcement that the Clean Power Plan will be ended opens the door for investment in coal-fired electricity generation. In order for the U.S. manufacturing to grow and thrive, the availability of inexpensive and reliable electricity is a must. Ending the Clean Power Plan, including all of its regulations, brings us one step closer to making America’s economy great again.”

VP Pence right to leave Colts-49ers game

Oct. 9, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Vice President Mike Pence’s decision to leave yesterday’s Colts-49ers game:

“Entertainers performing for the National Football League are no different than stage performers for the play Hamilton. If they choose to make their performances exclusionary and their producers and owners allow it, then the rest of us who love America have every right to no longer pay their salaries through attendance, listening to or viewing broadcasts of their product.

“Vice President Pence’s choice to leave the Colts-49ers game on Sunday is to be commended and the fact the NFL nonsense protests continue in spite of overwhelming opposition, signals to the rest of us that we are not welcome at NFL games.

“The truth is that with Sundays back, more will go to church, mow their lawns and play with their kids rather than wasting time watching overgrown, roid-raging millionaires bash into each other.

“I stand with the President and Vice President for the national anthem and flag, and I will not stand for those who refuse to do the same.”

Time to enforce antidumping rules against trade violators LG and Samsung

Oct. 6, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the International Trade Commission for finding LG and Samsung in violation of the U.S. antidumping rules:

“Every free trade agreement is dependent on enforcement, otherwise there is no reciprocity. Yesterday, the ITC unanimously found that Whirlpool was damaged by dumping by LG and Samsung in violation of U.S. law and South Korean Free Trade Agreement (KORUS) rules. These agreements must be enforced by the U.S. Department of Commerce in a meaningful way. If trade agreements are going to have any value and be sustainable, all parties must comply with their terms. In order to preserve the legitimacy of the overall KORUS trade deal, LG and Samsung’s repeated failure to follow the trade rules must be subjected to swift and significant sanctions.”

Why hasn’t Christopher Steele’s testimony been subpoenaed?

Oct. 5, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement asking why Congressional intelligence committees have not subpoenaed the testimony of Christopher Steele who authored the original Trump-Russia collusion dossier:

“Christopher Steele is ground zero for the Russia collusion lie. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr admitted yesterday that his committee after nine months of investigating the contentions of Steele’s dossier has unbelievably been unable to interview Steele. Steele’s dossier and the FBI’s involvement with him is chilling considering that it has been used as a pretext for an attempt to end the presidency of Donald Trump. What’s more, Steele’s discredited allegations, subject of multiple libel suits, has made the world a significantly more dangerous place, as it has threatened to submarine almost five decades of detente between the world’s foremost nuclear powers. One would think that if Burr is going to continue his investigation, it might revolve around Christopher Steele and who paid him to produce a political hit piece that became the rationale for Special Counsel Mueller and his ongoing witch hunt. Now Burr’s attention should be shifting to Steele and if he refuses to testify, subpoenas should be issued to force him to finally tell the truth.”

Energy Department rule incentivizing coal and nuclear good for economic growth, grid resiliency

Oct. 4, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and the Trump administration for a new Energy Department rule that will require “its organized markets to develop and implement reforms that would fully price generation resources necessary to maintain the reliability and resiliency of our nation’s grid”:

“In 2016, Coal and nuclear provided a combined 51 percent of electricity, in spite of Obama policies that are taking 374 coal power plants off line, and accelerating the decommissioning of 5 nuclear reactors. The rule announced by Department of Energy will help take the regulatory boot off the throats of these two vital pieces of our electricity power grid puzzle.

“In order for America to grow its manufacturing sector and to create the resulting high-paying jobs, it is essential that we expand our electricity immediately. Secretary Perry’s wise move will encourage the private sector to invest in this necessary expansion.

“This latest Energy Department rule is just one more example of President Donald Trump successfully ending the administrative stranglehold on free market economic growth. Thank you, Secretary Perry.”

Save Local Business Act to protect franchise system

Oct. 3, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in favor of H.R. 3441, the Save Local Business Act, which will restore what it means to be a joint employer under the “direct and immediate” control standard”:

“In 2015, the Obama-led National Labor Relations Board jeopardized the entire franchise system used by fast food and other convenience chains by making corporate headquarters culpable for every violation by an individual franchisee. This puts the entire franchise system at risk, since now corporations must assume nearly unlimited liability and as a result may have to resort to command-and-control policies, sacrificing the independence of local businesses that value autonomy. The Save Local Business Act rectifies this regulatory disruption by negating the impact of the ill-conceived Obama regulation.”

Mandatory union dues deduction case opportunity for Supreme Court to uphold First Amendment

Sept. 29, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government Foundation President Don Todd, a former Director of Labor Management Standards that has direct oversight of the public and private unions, today issued the following statement praising the Supreme Court for taking up the case Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 31:

“No person should ever be forced to involuntarily contribute to an organization which he or she is not even a member of, a clear violation of First Amendment rights. The Supreme Court is doing the right thing by revisiting the 1977 Abood decision. With Justice Neil Gorsuch now on the job, this could be an opportunity for the Court make it clear that freedom of speech also includes the freedom to refrain from subsidizing it.”

Tax plan must be big enough to stimulate economy

Sept. 27, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest tax plan offered by President Donald Trump and the GOP Congress:

“Ronald Reagan’s signature 1981 tax cut amounted to 2.89 percent of GDP over the four years post-enactment, with stimulative shockwaves being felt through the economy for decades. The unfortunate fact is that our nation’s economy today has been stuck in neutral for more than a decade, not growing above 4 percent since 2000 and not above 3 percent since 2005. 3 percent GDP growth is now considered a fantasy when not too long ago it was the bare baseline expectation for U.S. growth. To get out of this permanent, stagnant, new normal of slow growth, flat wages and increasing economic despair, Congress needs to be bold in passing as large of a net tax cut as possible. Now is not the time for the tepid or weak of heart. Our nation’s economy needs to grow, and the government needs to consume a smaller proportion of our overall wealth.

“The outline released today of the tax plan appears to be the bare minimum economic stimulation needed for expanded job growth, higher wages and bringing the 9 million 16 to 64 year olds who would otherwise be a part of the labor force back into the economy. While we recognize that the devil is in the details, the GOP Congress and President Trump are taking a step in the right direction with the tax plan that has been outlined. Of particular importance is the lowering of the corporate tax rate which will make it profitable for businesses to bring and create middle class jobs in the U.S. What’s more, the simplification of the individual tax code along with doubling the standard deduction will be a boon for the average American taxpayer.”

Roy Moore win in Alabama a victory for the Trump agenda

Sept. 26, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement reacting to the Alabama Republican Senate primary:

“Washington, D.C. establishment Republicans will attempt to spin it as a loss for President Donald Trump, but let’s be clear, it is Trump’s agenda that is the big winner tonight in Alabama with the nomination of Judge Roy Moore to fill Jeff Sessions’ Senate seat.

“This election turned into a battle between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Judge Roy Moore largely due to the sheer volume and vitriol of the spending by McConnell’s Leadership PAC which dumped millions of wasted dollars in advertising attacking Moore and Rep. Mo Brooks during the primary process in favor of appointed incumbent Senator Luther Strange. The net McConnell effect was to nationalize the election as a referendum on him and the Washington, D.C. swamp as a whole.  Trump tried to bail McConnell out by campaigning from Strange, but like Trump himself, Judge Moore had a well-known record of standing up for his beliefs even in the face of those who could and did politically punish him.  And it is that kind of drain the swamp persona that drew voters to Trump in the first place.

“Additionally, the standard ‘racist’ charges against Moore fell flat in the pulpits of black churches across the state as those pastors knew and worked with Moore to fight for the placement of the Ten Commandments in the state Supreme Court Building in Montgomery against secularists’ attacks.

An Emerson College poll showed that Moore led his Democrat opponent Doug Jones by a 52 percent to 30 percent margin just before his primary victory. The general election will be a first test this cycle if the establishment National Republican Senatorial Committee will spend money to win a Senate seat when a conservative wins the nomination.  In past years, the NRSC has either abandoned or undermined conservative primary winners who defeated their preferred candidates.

“The Moore primary victory combined with Senator Bob Corker’s announcement that he will not be seeking re-election is the beginning of the unwinding of the establishment stranglehold on the Senate by Trump voters. Ironically, it was leading GOP Senate Trump critics McCain, Murkowski and Collins who set the dominos falling for the establishment through their votes to kill even modest Obamacare replacement legislation. Now it will be up to the NRSC to prove that they are willing to support nominees, like Moore, who will be much more likely to vote for the President’s agenda than many of their previous primary election supported candidates. If they are not, the President should withdraw approval for the use of his name for fundraising purposes from the official GOP political entities and elites.”
