OMB must stop end of year spending splurge

Aug. 10, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to a report from The Pulse showing federal departments and agency’s have not spent as much as 40 percent of their budgets with only 51 days left in the fiscal year

“It is reported that the federal government is looking to go on a spending binge before the end of the fiscal year on September 30th to use all of the dollars Congress appropriated this fiscal year.  The Office of Management Budget should swiftly notify every agency that end of year spending will be reviewed and failure to engage in legal and fiscally sound contracting policies will not be tolerated.  It is unacceptable for agencies to simply blow money on vanity projects just because Congress appropriated dollars without strings.  It is up to congressional leadership and the White House to do everything in their power to prevent the end of year wasteful spending extravaganza that is predicted.”

Prices stable in last six months as Trump economy roars

Aug. 10, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the latest consumer and producer price numbers:

“The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that seasonally adjusted prices have only increased by 0.8 percent over the past six months.  Electricity prices dropped 1.9 percent during this six month period, while the cost of shelter increased 1.5 percent.  While the headline number of a 2.9 percent unadjusted increase receives the headlines, the six-month tracking demonstrates that the economic growth spurt generated through President Trump’s economic policies have not spurred higher costs to consumers. Just one more piece of welcome news that defies so-called expert predictions.

“The good news of low inflation for the past six months was bolstered by yesterday’s release of Producer Price Index for final demand of goods only inched up .1 percent last month, demonstrating that the economic strength shown in the second quarter of 2018 is not being offset by inflation headwinds at either the producer or consumer level.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is right on DACA, only Congress can repeal a law

Aug. 6, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Attorney General Jeff Sessions on his stand against District Judge John Bates’ ruling attempting to compel President Donald Trump not to enforce U.S. immigration law when it comes to minors arriving illegally:

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions is exactly right. The executive branch cannot repeal law by simply writing a letter stating that U.S. immigration law no longer applies to entire classes of illegal immigrants, in this case minors who enter the country illegally. Yet that is what District Judge John Bates would have the nation believe, upending more than 200 years of constitutional governance and obliterating the separation of powers, saying, in effect, that the President is no longer allowed to enforce the law because the prior President abdicated his responsibility to do so.

“Attorney General Sessions decision to stand for the constitutional rule of law and fight this decision is why he is invaluable as our nation’s Attorney General. Restoring the rule of law while coming out of an age of lawlessness is essential to the fundamental principles of equal justice and law by the consent of the governed which underpin our republic.  The legitimacy of the implied power of judicial review depends greatly on the presumption that basic constitutional structures, like Congress making law, will be followed by judges. But today there is an increasing trend of court decisions that appear to depend entirely on who is in the White House. That is the end of constitutional governance, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should be universally praised for standing in the gap for the rule of law.”

Trump jobs miracle continues with 3.9 million new jobs since Jan. 2017, U-6 down to 7.5 percent as unemployed lowest since 2001

Aug. 3, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest job numbers:

“July of 2018 marked the second lowest number of unemployed Americans since before 9/11 in May of 2001 dropping to 6.28 million – 284,000 fewer that in the previous month. What makes this low number of unemployed particularly impressive is that the total population in the workplace has increased by almost 19 million since May 2011. Almost 3.9 million new jobs have been created since President Trump took office, owed to the tax cuts, the deregulation and the push for better trade deals.

“President Trump promised that the forgotten men and women would be brought back into the economy. America is working, the July employment numbers confirm that those who have been left behind over the past two decades are beginning to find their places in their search for the American dream.

“While conventionally, the media follows, the U-3 unemployment number which is at an extremely low 3.9 percent, Americans for Limited Government has been consistent in emphasizing the unemployment data which reflects those who had been left behind. The Bureau of Labor Statistics offers an unemployment percentage, the U-6 number, which reflects traditional unemployment plus those who have become marginally detached from the workforce and those working part-time for economic reasons.  It is a reflection of the Trump economy that this unemployment rate has dropped to 7.5 percent over the past year, the lowest since 2001, demonstrating that President Trump’s economic plan of less, unnecessary job strangling regulation, lower taxes and fair and reciprocal trade deals are working and Americans are benefitting.”

Senate should confirm Eric Dreiband for Civil Rights Division immediately after Portland Police refuse to answer 911 call by ICE agents

Aug. 2, 2018, Fairfax, VA—Americans For Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement regarding the news that the Portland Police Department refused to answer 911 calls from ICE employees trapped by an Antifa mob:

“The actions of the Portland, Oregon Mayor Ted Wheeler and the Police Department to ignore 911 calls from the ICE building are reprehensible. When a citizen of the United States calls 911, they expect the police to answer. To not answer because you disagree with the political beliefs of the person on the other end of the line violates every oath the Mayor and member of the police department took.

“The episode underscores the need for the Senate to confirm Eric Dreiband to lead the Civil Rights Division as Assistant Attorney General. One of his first actions should be to investigate the Mayor and Police Department for violations of the United States Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause under the 14th Amendment.

“The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved appointees to fill many of these positions including Dreiband already. No more excuses. These nominees need to be voted on. The Senate needs to prioritize staffing the Justice Department deputies and assistants and clear out the career Obama holdovers who are exercising power. It is time for the Trump administration to begin at the Justice Department and more importantly, for the Obama administration to end. The Senate needs to do its job.”

Mueller’s political prosecutions must end

Aug. 1, 2018, Fairfax, VA – Americans For Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement regarding the news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has referred more potential failure to register as foreign lobbyist prosecutions to U.S. Attorneys in Manhattan:

“Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s latest actions prove President Trump is correct in calling the investigation a witch-hunt. Mueller continues to prove he is not needed by passing off prosecutions of crimes to U.S. Attorneys. This begs the question, if U.S. Attorneys can do the prosecution, then why is Robert Mueller’s hit squad needed?

“It becomes clear this is a politically motivated hit job when you look at the prosecution of Paul Manafort which has nothing to do with Russia hacking, collusion or even the 2016 election. Tony Podesta, brother of former Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, and Paul Manafort worked together on the same issues in Ukraine. Both are accused of potentially failing to register as foreign lobbyist crimes, but only one of them is being prosecuted by Mueller’s team, while the other, rightfully so, has been handed off to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan. Why? Because Paul Manafort worked for Donald Trump.”

Trump economic boom begins with 4.1 percent growth in Q2

July 27, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the latest GDP numbers:

“Today’s announcement that the second quarter GDP grew by 4.1 percent annualized is further proof that the Trump economic policies of tax cuts, deregulation and better trade deals are beginning to take hold. While there is still work to be done to reach a 3 percent annual growth rate for 2018, the accelerating economy demonstrates the kind of strength needed to meet or beat President Trump’s 3 percent GDP growth promise. But these are not just numbers out of Washington, D.C. Since Trump became President, the number of working age adults aged 16-64 not in the labor force has dropped by 2.5 million even as the population increased by more than 938,000. This isn’t about statistics, this about people’s lives and people’s hopes and dreams coming true. That’s what truly matters.”

Trump trade deal with Europe proves ‘fair and reciprocal’ lowering of trade barriers only sustainable path to free trade

July 26, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising President Donald Trump’s trade agreement with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker:

“The U.S-European agreement to zero out tariff and non-tariff trade barriers on non-auto industrial equipment and to lower other barriers for other products is a huge win for the Trump Trade Doctrine and the entire world. It’s proves that the President’s tough approach on tariffs will bring trade partners to the table. Moreover, the President’s determination to get a better deal for the U.S. proves that the only sustainable way to get to free trade is through the ‘fair and reciprocal’ lowering of barriers where all parties act in concert. Whereas past presidents were just fine with the U.S. lowering its barriers while the rest of the world didn’t, finally we have a leader who is fully engaged on trade and will ensure the U.S. is no longer taken advantage of.

“Finally, Trump’s agreement with the EU to reform the World Trade Organization to stop the theft of intellectual property and forced technology transfer by China is another big win for manufacturers, particularly in the technology sector, who have been raided by Chinese companies in the past. This serves notice on China that the WTO will no longer be a vehicle to enable China’s unfair trade practices.

“Real reform at the WTO is imperative. If the WTO cannot hear trade cases when there are hundreds of billions of dollars on the line in a timely manner or address currency manipulation which is a subsidy on goods, then the U.S. will have no choice but to act. Trump’s agreement with the EU should precipitate urgently needed action to fix the WTO.  In the meantime, the U.S. could simply block Chinese imports that violate U.S. intellectual property laws or levy additional tariffs on those that utilize currency depreciation subsidies. China, which runs a huge surplus, has a lot more to lose in a trade battle than the U.S. President Trump has it exactly right to put the outmoded WTO rules on the table. It’s about time.”

Homeland Security appropriations bill fails to meet Trump immigration agenda

July 26, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the House of Representatives to reject the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security appropriations bill:

“Once again, the Washington D.C. establishment showed the people where its loyalties lay, with illegal immigrants and not the American people. Yesterday the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security passed an abomination of an appropriations bill. The legislation goes back on many promises President Trump made in the election.

“As President Trump, the DOJ, and DHS fight to close abused loopholes in immigration law, yesterday’s appropriations bill does nothing but encourage more lawbreaking. This bill does nothing to defund sanctuary cities that are killing our citizens, this bill does nothing to dissuade the flow of illegal immigration, it actually encourages more, and finally invites the courts to rule the U.S. become an open border state if someone wants an abortion here. Name one Republican that ran their campaign on a promise to tear up U.S. sovereignty based on abortions.

“Getting $5 billion for a border wall means nothing if it is full of Yoder sponsored loopholes.

“President Trump should speak out now against this horrendous appropriations bill before it gets to his desk. The GOP establishment is trying to pull a fast one on the President and want to hide amnesty behind the military budget. The American people spoke loud and clear on election day, they do not want the continued flow of illegal immigration, and they want a wall built. Clearly the establishment didn’t get the message.”

In light of FISA abuse, Trump should declassify all documents that originated Russia collusion probe

July 23, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging President Donald Trump to declassify all documents that originated the Russia collusion probe after Judicial Watch revealed the Oct. 2016 FISA application by the FBI against the Trump campaign:

“The release of the heavily redacted FISA application by the FBI against Carter Page in Oct. 2016 through June 2017 proves that the Trump campaign was subjected to an intelligence operation and surveillance that looked back through records and communications before the election in violation of the Constitution. What is shocking is that such a violation of the understood separation of the intelligence services and domestic politics appeared to be routinely rubberstamped, clearly demonstrating current legal safeguards are insufficient and merit Congress revisiting the authorizing of the FISA court in its entirety. Hats off to Judicial Watch for getting this via FOIA.

“The big loser in all this is James Comey, who signed a FISA application that he declared to be ‘verified’ and then testified three months later to Congress under oath that the evidence the FBI relied on was in fact ‘salacious and unverified.’ Either he lied to the court or he lied to Congress. There is no ambiguity.

“This makes it all the more important that President Donald Trump grant House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devein Nunes’ request to declassify the documents that originated the Obama administration’s Russia collusion investigation. The charade being conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the left needs the disinfectant of transparency in order to be fully exposed. This must never be allowed to happen again.”
