Sprint-T-Mobile merger approval paves the road for 5G

Feb. 11, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising federal court approval of the Sprint-T-Mobile merger:

“Thanks to the support of federal courts, along with the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission, the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile is a done deal. Together, Sprint and T-Mobile will help to bring 5G to the U.S., combining T-Mobile’s low band spectrum to bring the network nationwide and rural areas and Sprint’s medium band spectrum in big cities and densely populated suburbs. This will increase competition in 5G markets versus Verizon and AT&T, significantly expand high speed Internet access in a vast majority of rural America and help create good paying American jobs.”

President Trump praised for draining National Security Council swamp

Feb. 10, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising President Donald Trump and National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien for removing 70 Obama holdovers from the National Security Council:

“More than three years into President Trump’s first term, his National Security Advisor is finally ending the bloated National Security Council structure inherited from the Obama administration. And it’s about time! The National Security Council personnel were quoted by the New York Times during the first year of the Trump administration bragging that they saw their job as being to block President Trump’s policies and the recent set of leaks associated with the impeachment are evidence that the NSC continues to be a politicized nest of ideologues who oppose the President’s foreign policy. It is important to have dissenting on foreign policy within any administration, however, the dissenting views must cease once the President has set a policy direction. Unfortunately, the Obama holdovers have been simply trying to run out the clock on the Trump presidency rather than serving and supporting the administration’s goals. Hopefully, this long-needed downsizing of the bloated NSC will result in an effective operating team as opposed to being the heart of the resistance against President Trump.”

President Trump provides path to balanced budget, Congress needs to act

Feb. 10, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the President’s proposed budget:

“President Trump continues to produce budgets that provide a pathway to balance in 15 years, with $4.4 trillion of cuts over 10 years. It is up to Congress to pass appropriations bills that include a similar commitment to cutting the deficit. Unfortunately, Democratic politicians like House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer continue to attack President Trump for the escalating budget deficit while ignoring their primary role in increasing government spending. If Congress worked, and the House majority actually wanted to govern, they would make budget deficit reduction a primary focus in 2020. Unfortunately, what they really want is to blame the President for their credit card abuse. It’s time for Americans to tell Congress the cut the budget now.”

ALG urges Senate committee to reject Jessie Liu nomination

Feb. 10, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee to reject the nomination of U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu for Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Crimes at the U.S. Treasury:

“U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jessie Liu should not receive a promotion to the extremely important position of Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Crimes at the U.S. Treasury. Liu’s tenure at the head of the U.S. Attorney’s office in the District since 2017 has been a disaster, as she was unable to determine the corruption right under her nose at the Justice Department, FBI, CIA, the State Department and the National Security Council.

“What’s more, in spite of overwhelming evidence that former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was innocent of perjury charges with exculpatory evidence being withheld by the D.C. prosecutors, Liu is persisting on pursuing this political prosecution to jail Flynn. Even more astonishing is the fact that Liu effectively allowed a Senate Intelligence Committee staffer to walk away with a slap on the wrist for leaking classified information, and minimized the prosecution of a spy ring that had infiltrated the entire email system of the House of Representatives.

“While I’m confident that Liu has gained many powerful political benefactors for the blind eye she has turned on swamp corruption, she should not be elevated to a position with extraordinary national security implications. Americans for Limited Government urges the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee to reject her nomination.”

Economic boom continues with 225K new jobs in Jan. 2020

Feb. 7, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest jobs numbers:

“Job creation in January continued to roar along, accelerating to 225,000 jobs created, a dramatic increase over the average monthly job creation in 2019.  The expansion of construction, particularly new home construction, jobs is a great sign moving forward as the housing sector can drive economic growth all on its own.

“When coupled with the near record low number of new unemployment insurance claims reported this week and the 3.1 percent annual increase in wages which disproportionately benefits those in the bottom economic tier, it is clear that President Trump’s tax and regulation cuts, along with his America First trade policy are winning for all Americans.

“And the path forward is even more exciting as the positive impacts on the manufacturing and agricultural sectors from the recent signing of the USMCA into law, the first phase China deal and a phase one deal with the Japanese promise to bring more jobs and prosperity to America.  The President has engaged in a comprehensive economic growth plan and the great news is that parts of it are just beginning to kick in.”

National Security Advisor O’Brien right to downsize & de-politicize Nat’l Security Council Staff

Feb. 7, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien’s restructuring and downsizing of the National Security Council:

“The National Security Council was deliberately bloated to over 450 members during the Obama administration, and President Trump’s National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien is determined to send unnecessary personnel back to their home agencies.

“Democrats complain that people like Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman will be moved from their office in the White House complex back to the Defense Department during this downsizing.  The simple fact is that the NSC is not a lifetime assignment, and actors like Vindman no longer have any use as no one in their right mind would include him in any meeting of consequence due to his role leaking confidential presidential conversations.

“Recently when I was at the White House exiting through the Old Executive Office Building, I and my colleagues in the group, ran into Vindman who was taking a selfie in front of an NSC office as he apparently was preparing for his exit more than a month ago.

“NSC officials serve at the pleasure of the President, and the on-going leaks out of the NSC by Obama holdovers like Vindman and his brother who reviews book manuscripts for classified information, rightfully cannot be trusted.  While the Washington Post and others may be upset that their ‘sources’ are being moved outside the ring of information, this and any president needs to have advisors who he or she can trust.  If cutting the fat out of the NSC staff also results in removing people intent on using their positions to obstruct the President’s policies, then it is a double win for the American people.”

Romney’s Trump envy disappoints Utah

Feb. 5, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement blasting Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) for announcing he would vote to convict President Donald Trump:

“Mitt Romney has proven that his venal nature and envy over President Trump’s election has overcome any rational judgment when it comes to impeachment. Romney’s vote to convict reveals much more about his lack of character than it does about President Trump. While this is not surprising, it is disappointing in that prior to the 17th Amendment, the legislature of the state of Utah would have been able to immediately remove him from representing their state.”

Iowa Caucus chaos incompetence, or manipulation?

Feb. 4, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the Iowa Democratic Party’s failure to report results from the Iowa Caucus:

“The same Democrats who want to run our nation’s health care system cannot manage to even count a few votes in Iowa. It is clear that the Iowa Democratic Party either is beyond incompetent or is corruptly attempting to put their thumbs on the scale to deny Bernie Sanders momentum and prop up the failing Joe Biden campaign. The real tragedy is that the Iowa Caucus is likely to become a thing of the past due this recent history of manipulating and misreporting. The shame of it is national candidates benefit from meeting farmers and spending time in middle America and Democratic candidates particularly benefit as they get off their coasts and visit what they view as flyover America once every four years.

“The big winner of the Iowa Caucus was not Bernie Sanders, it was President Donald Trump who has demonstrated the past three years that he can lead this nation to prosperity and restore our standing around the world, while his Democratic opponents cannot even be trusted to perform a simple task with telephone technology.”

Time for the Senate to end Democrat impeachment nightmare

Jan. 31, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging to Senate to acquit President Donald Trump of all charges:

“The Senate should end Adam Schiff’s partisan impeachment fantasy tonight.  The Democrat majority in the House of Representatives has embarrassed themselves and have been exposed for their craven effort to politically weaponize the once somber impeachment process.

“For those still clinging to the idea that if the House Democrats can just call more witnesses on the Senate floor that somehow they will stumble upon something resembling an impeachable offense, you will have your chances in November of 2020 to make your voice heard.  But please know that the House impeachment was never about convicting Donald Trump, instead it was nothing more than a chance for coastal politicians to preen in front of cameras and raise money to fund their future political ambitions.  The House impeachment was nothing more than Kabuki Theatre on a national stage with fundraising appeals accompanying every manufactured highlight.

“It is truly sad that the House’s political ambitions were put ahead of our national interest, but in some ways it was good for America to witness the lengths Democrats will go to win power as we head into the 2020 election.

“Crowds of more than 100,000 in Wildwood, New Jersey and 150,000 ticket requests along with a standing room only crowd in Des Moines, Iowa with people outside the venue watching in sub-freezing weather, turned the Democrats hope to mobilize their base and demoralize the President’s through impeachment on its head.  The surprising part is that the crowds are not just GOP faithful, the New Jersey crowd had a significant number of south Jersey Democrats with the President making an appeal for them to join former Democrat and current Republican Congressman Jeff Van Drew in switching political parties. Additionally, while polling is generally untrustworthy when it comes to Trump, the President’s national head to head numbers have gotten significantly better since the beginning of this impeachment play.

“Tonight, if the Democrats and the nation gets lucky, the Senate will vote down a long-drawn out process for additional witnesses, and will vote to acquit, freeing Amy Klobacher, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren to chase around Iowa for a few days before the Caucus on Monday, February 3rd and New Hampshire eight days later.

“It is time to end impeachment today, and let the Senate get back to confirming judges who will make an impact for a generation.”

If the House gets 19 witnesses, then so should the President

Jan. 30, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging that if witnesses are allowed in the Senate, the President’s legal team should have discretion to call as many witnesses as they want:

“Should the Senate decide to open the door to witnesses, the President should be allowed to call any witness given the House of Representatives decision to not allow his participation in the House impeachment efforts.  At the very least, the President should be allowed to call any witness who was requested by House Republicans including Alexandra Chalupa, Eric Ciaramella, Joe and Hunter Biden. The Senate should not allow the House Managers to use their floor to further their failed witch hunt, without affording the President expansive rights to present alternative witnesses who demonstrate why the inclusion of Biden and/or Burisma into the conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. If the House gets 19 witnesses, then so should the President.”
