Pelosi drives House majority off a cliff with witch hunt

Oct. 31, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the House’s vote on the impeachment inquiry resolution against President Donald Trump:

“Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment gambit has effectively driven her majority in the House off a cliff as only two Democrats who represent strong Trump districts voted against the ongoing and unfair impeachment witch hunt. A wise Speaker would have been content with a simple majority vote, allowing those vulnerable members to present the illusion of honesty and fairness rather than revealing themselves as Trump derangement syndrome enablers. Democrats Collin Peterson and Jeff Van Drew’s votes against the probe have earned praise for standing up to Pelosi and in favor of their constituents, due process and the truth. While this may scare some GOP establishment insiders, the 2020 Congressional election will be nationalized as an up or down on President Trump, and Pelosi just handed them the key to Republican control of the House in 2020 if only they are smart enough to grab it and use it.

“The House GOP leadership has done a remarkable job of educating their members about Pelosi and Schiff’s abuses of power, consolidating Republican support across inter-conference lines against this impeachment inquiry driven by blind hatred that shields political good judgment. The only question is when House Democrat survival instincts will kick in resulting in massive defections from the demands of the AOC-led radical political impeachment push.”

Senate rejects S.J. Res. 52, upholds 1332 waivers that restore federalism to health insurance markets

Oct. 30, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the Senate for rejecting S.J. Res. 52 and upholding 1332 waivers that restore state primacy in health insurance markets:

“The President kept his word by administratively undoing parts of Obamacare that decrease competition and drive up health care costs, beginning the process of restoring state primacy over the insurance markets. House Democrats tried to undo that using the Congressional Review Act, but thanks to the Senate that effort failed. And the Senate should also reject any other attempts to create artificial government price controls including the unintended consequences in health care policy in the surprise medical billing legislation currently being considered in the House, which would have the perverse effect of driving up overall health care costs as well.”

U.S. economic growth continues, recession pundits proven wrong again

Oct. 30, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement reacting to the latest GDP numbers from the Bureau of Economic Analysis showing a 1.9 percent inflation-adjusted increase in economic growth in the third quarter of 2019:

“The Recessionistas have been proven wrong yet again as the economy continues to sustainably grow in the third quarter by 1.9 percent. While this growth rate is not spectacular, it’s not horrible either and in view of the perpetually wrong economic pundits’ gloom and doom prognostications, it should be viewed as a repudiation of those who attempted to talk down the Trump economy.

“Fewer Americans are unemployed right now than at any time since 2000, and the unemployment rate is lower than at any time in the past 50 years. Americans are working, wages are on the rise, and the only people unhappy are the Never Trumpers and those with Trump derangement syndrome who are perpetually mad.”

Of course President Trump sought Ukraine information outside of State Department channels — only a fool wouldn’t have

Oct. 30, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to State Department employees complaining that President Donald Trump used informal intermediaries including Rudy Giuliani to gather and relay information in Ukraine in the conduct of his foreign policy:

“Let’s be clear. The President of the United States leads U.S. foreign policy under Article II, and any policy carried out in contravention of his stated policies is illegitimate and rogue. The fact that State Department career officials have forgotten this basic fact reaffirms once again the reach and power of the deep state foreign policy apparatus. The President has a right and responsibility to receive and relay information from whichever sources he chooses in the conduct of foreign affairs. Only a fool wouldn’t have. This is particularly true when many of the established foreign service advisors in the arena may have been compromised by alleged illegal actions taken in the prior administration. The House of Representatives should be smart enough to recognize that in any administration there will and should be different ideas and diverse policy alternatives discussed internally. However, the President makes the decision at the end of the day of what to do.

“As much as Speaker Pelosi and her henchmen would like to pretend otherwise, America elects one President every four years, and right now that’s Donald Trump. Their clear fear of President Trump’s probable reelection is driving the Pelosi House to increasingly desperate and constitutionally dangerous measures that the American people must overwhelmingly reject.”

NSC testimony reveals deep state arrogance

Oct. 29, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to testimony by Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman that he was “uncomfortable” with President Donald Trump’s July 25 phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky:

“Leaked testimony by Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman to the House Intelligence Committee is shocking in its revelation on three critical points. First and foremost, a career NSC employee somehow believes that his policy preferences supersede those of the elected President of the United States. This reveals the ongoing deep state battle where unelected bureaucrats resist the constitutional powers vested in the President with full belief that they have moral authority. One simple question to Vindman: Who the heck elected you? The second troubling aspect of his testimony is that he clearly believes that the Democrats would engage in partisan retribution against the Ukraine government as a result of their help in getting to the bottom of the origins of the Russiagate scandal and any potential findings of corruption against former Vice President Joe Biden. Ironically, this is exactly what the Democrats falsely say they are impeaching Trump over, saying that exposing 2016 interference by Ukraine is in itself interference. Third, as an officer in the U.S. military Vindman appears to be violating the military code of conduct that allows for disobedience of an unlawful order but does not allow testifying to the legislative branch in opposition to a presidential national security policy that he was uniquely privy to.

“It no wonder that the President of the United States cut out career foreign service and national security council personnel from decision-making related to Ukraine and presumably elsewhere in the world. And it begs the question as to what value any of these resister bureaucrats provide when the President cannot include them in the decision-making process due to their infidelity to their constitutional and legal duties. At this point, it is reasonable to question whether the entirety of the National Security Council should be required to submit their resignations and reapply for their jobs if they believe they can actually inform and in good faith implement the President’s policies.”

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai praised for answering threat from Huawei, ZTE

Oct. 28, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai’s decision to hold a vote on whether to block use of the $8.5 billion Universal Service Fund from being used by companies to do business with Huawei and ZTE:

“Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai has demonstrated once again that he and the Trump administration are willing to lead the fight in protecting America from China’s technological takeover. The FCC’s decision to consider whether to prohibit companies that do business with Huawei and ZTE from accessing the $8.5 billion Universal Service Fund is an important step in protecting the United States’ technological infrastructure from Chinese dependency. Chairman Pai is absolutely right to move forward with this important reform and all of America owes him and the FCC a debt of gratitude for this forward thinking approach as we face a 5G future.”

Why is the National Endowment for the Arts funding a Che Guevara exhibit?

Oct. 28, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging President Donald Trump to fire National Endowment for the Arts Chair Mary Anne Carter for allowing a Che Guevera exhibit to be funded with U.S. taxpayer monies:

“Senators Marco Rubio  and Sen. Rick Scott recently wrote a letter to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) expressing their concern about a grant to a Texas art museum. Their concern stemmed from the fact that the museum created an exhibit featuring images of Che Guevara without providing appropriate context. Americans for Limited Government stands with Sens. Rubio and Scott.

“President Donald Trump should strongly consider replacing Mary Anne Carter as the head of the NEA as it clearly continues to promote the cultural destruction of American values. There is no excuse for a murderous communist thug like Che Guevara who hated America and human rights to be legitimized using U.S. taxpayer dollars. This is exactly the kind of swamp draining that the American people expect from the Trump administration and the fact that the NEA still does not get it is shocking.”

Graham-McConnell resolution in favor of due process in impeachment up to 50 supporters. Where are Manchin, Sinema and Jones?

Oct. 25, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging every Senator, whether Republican or Democrat, to support S. Res. 378, calling for the House to “consistent with long-standing practice and precedent, prior to proceeding any further with its impeachment investigation into President Donald J. Trump, vote to open a formal impeachment inquiry and provide President Trump with fundamental constitutional protections”:

Half the Senate is now on record condemning the circus-like witch hunt being conducted against President Trump in the House of Representatives. With only three Republicans not yet signing onto the Graham resolution, what is surprising is that Sens. Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema and Doug Jones have not raced their GOP colleagues to Graham’s desk to be included. The people of West Virginia, Arizona and Alabama need to contact their Senate delegations and make it clear that they expect their Democrat elected Senators to join their Republican colleagues and stand up for due process rights. Fair play is not a partisan principle, and it’s time for Manchin, Sinema and Jones to recognize.”

The Senate should defund the impeachment witch hunt until due process is provided

Oct. 25, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the Senate not to fund the legislative branch until the House opens up its impeachment process to include due process, open hearings and minority rights:

“The Senate should reject all attempts to fund the legislative branch in the upcoming omnibus appropriations bill until the House of Representatives engages in due process, with full participation by the minority, in their impeachment witch hunt. While Congress has every right to pursue impeachment, the current ‘make up the rules as you go along’ secret star chamber being implemented by U.S. Rep. Schiff and coordinated with Speaker Pelosi violates the precepts of minority rights within our system, and the Senate is under no obligation to fund it. There can be no excuse for continuing to fund this sham, which denies the President of the United States basic constitutional rights that every citizen should expect to be honored.”

44 Senate Republicans agree House process unfair, lacks due process. Where’s Romney and friends?

Oct. 24, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the Senate to sponsor and pass a resolution condemning the House impeachment process as lacking due process:

“Nine Republican Senators remain silent through their failure to cosponsor Sen. Lindsey Graham’s resolution condemning the House impeachment process as lacking due process. It may be simple staff oversight. However there is no excuse for anyone to accept a process that denies fairness to the President of the United States. It is time for Senators Dan Sullivan, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Michael Enzi, Cory Gardner, Lamar Alexander, Rob Portman, Johnny Isakson and Mitt Romney to at least agree that House Republicans should be afforded the ability to call witnesses and the transparency of open hearings. There are some who say that no one is above the law. The House proceedings are treating the President of the United States as if he is below the law, and that should be unacceptable to everyone. It’s time for Sen. Romney and those who haven’t signed on to join Sen. Graham and 43 other Republican colleagues in condemning an abjectly unfair process that sets a dangerous precedent.”

Correction: At the time of this statement, Senator Burr had signed onto the resolution and Senator Sullivan had not. The statement has been updated to reflect this.
