Biden invokes Defense Production Act to implement the Green New Deal

June 6, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement blasting President Joe Biden for invoking the Defense Production Act to implement the Green New Deal’s plan to retrofit every building in America with solar panels, heat pumps, transformers and new building insulation:

“President Biden’s executive orders invoking the National Defense Production Act to produce solar panels, insulation and heat pumps are little more than an attempt to implement the Green New Deal’s plan to retrofit every building in America without any Congressional authorization. Fortunately, Congressional Republicans this spring blocked Biden’s attempt to get a blank check from Congress in the Ukraine war supplemental to reprogram Defense Department dollars to the Defense Production Act Fund and another bill that would have explicitly granted $100 billion for purpose, both of which would have created ready slush funds for Biden to implement the Green New Deal.

“One thing is abundantly clear, there is no national emergency related to any shortage of heat pumps, insulation or solar panels, and thus this is an inappropriate exercise of the Defense Production Act’s powers. Congress must remain vigilant to ensure that this broad grant of authority to the President over our nation’s economic system is not abused to spend hundreds of billions of dollars to implement the Green New Deal.”

Sussman not guilty verdict reveals unequal justice in the swamp

May 31, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the jury’s not guilty verdict of former DNC, Clinton campaign and Perkins Coie lawyer Michael Sussman:

“Michael Sussman clearly lied to the General Counsel of the FBI when he claimed that he was not acting on behalf of his client — the Hillary Clinton Campaign — in arranging an appointment for him to deliver phony Clinton campaign opposition research to the FBI that falsely alleged that former President Donald Trump was a Russian agent.

“Unfortunately, today’s Washington, D.C.-based federal jury’s verdict serves more as an indictment of the jury itself and the idea that Republicans and Democrats can expect to receive equal treatment in the swamp. According to Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley, the jury included three Clinton donors, an AOC donor and a person whose daughter played on a sports team with Sussman’s kid, and somehow, these jurors were deemed ‘neutral.’

“The only plausible way to end the dominance of left-wing juries in D.C. and Alexandria, Va. is to create a vehicle to move all federal election and politically charged cases outside of the confines of the Washington, D.C. metro area. In the meantime, I don’t know if this finishes any hope of getting to the bottom of the Clinton campaign, DNC, Justice Department combined successful effort in perpetuating the Russian Collusion hoax, what I do know is that those who subverted our law enforcement and intelligence agencies to further their political ends in cahoots with the Clinton team are breathing much easier today than they were yesterday.”

Pausing the Disinformation Governance Board won’t prohibit CISA’s ongoing disinformation activities

May 18, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the Department of Homeland Security’s announcement it is pausing the Disinformation Governance Board:

“Today’s Department of Homeland Security decision to pause the Disinformation Governance Board is a small but somewhat meaningless step. The law that authorized the creation of CISA in 2018 allowed for disinformation communications to be relayed to private sector social media companies. Now, with this announcement, Congress needs to focus its efforts related to censorship at DHS entirely by eliminating or defunding the language allowing communications to be issued to private sector social media companies and other interactive computer services. Failure to rip the authorizing law out by the roots that allows the censorship in violation of the First Amendment in the first place will make today’s announcement a Pyrrhic victory at best.”

Correction of Gas Buddy statement

May 10, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following correction to his earlier statement responding to Gas Buddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan’s claim that 2008 gasoline prices were “the highest inflation adjusted ever”:

“Our earlier statement incorrectly stated that Gasbuddy’s Patrick De Haan said 2008 was the greatest gasoline price inflation in history. De Haan was actually talking about inflation-adjusted gasoline prices, saying 2008 had the ‘highest ever’ inflation-adjusted gas prices, but that’s still wrong. On an inflation-adjusted basis, every year from 1935 to 1966 had higher inflation-adjusted gasoline prices compared to 2008. In fact, using this very metric, 2008’s $3.27 per gallon would be $3.78 in 2022 after adjusting for inflation. That is slightly less than 2022’s year to date average of $3.79 per gallon through April, according to data compiled by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Therefore, 2008 was still not the ‘highest ever’ gas prices, even on an inflation-adjusted basis.

“The main point is that the Biden administration wants higher prices at the pump to move consumers to alternative energy sources, and to deny this is to deny one of the raisons d’être of this administration.”

Fact check: Gas Buddy falsely claims 2008 highest gasoline inflation in history, ignores 1979, 1980, 2000, 2021, etc.

May 10, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement responding to Gas Buddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan’s claim that 2008 gasoline prices were “the highest inflation adjusted ever”:

“Gas Buddy might be a great app for finding the cheapest gas station in your area, but I wouldn’t use it as a dependable source for tracking inflation in the gasoline market. Apparently embarrassed that Joe Biden’s disastrous energy policies led to a massive 36 percent increase in gasoline prices in 2021 alone before Russia invaded Ukraine, Gas Buddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan falsely claims that 2008 gasoline prices were ‘the highest inflation adjusted ever’ even though at 16.5 percent it was less than half the current increase. A cursory review of inflation data by the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveal higher gasoline average annual price increases in 1979 (35 percent), 1980 (38.9 percent) and 2000 (28.4 percent).

“Higher gas and energy prices are a feature of Biden’s Green New Deal in an attempt to not only drive increased demand for electric vehicles, but also to usher in dependency on unproven and undependable renewable energy alternatives. Patrick De Haan would do well to review his recent press releases which have proclaimed that since March 7, 2022, ‘U.S. National Average Price of Gasoline Hits New All-Time Record High’ when he declared ‘Americans have never seen gasoline prices this high…’ Maybe Gas Buddy should just focus on finding its clients the most affordable places to purchase gasoline and stay out of macroeconomics and partisan communications. ALG rates Gas Buddy’s inconvenient claim with the maximum four Al Gores for green disinformation.”

Productivity decrease signals more inflation trouble

ALG warns record productivity decrease combined with higher costs of labor is a dangerous mix.

May 6, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement regarding the sharp decline in United States productivity in the first quarter of 2022:

“The Bureau of labor announced that productivity in the United States declined by 7.5 percent in the first quarter of 2022. This is a flashing red danger sign that more inflation is looming. The drop in productivity is the largest recorded since 1947. In simple terms, this means that the labor costs associated with producing products in America is skyrocketing. This is particularly concerning due to the fact that increasing wages are not included in the productivity calculation.”

“The combination of record decrease in productivity along with the higher cost of labor is a witch’s brew signaling increased inflationary pressures in the months ahead.”

Senator Rand Paul praised for standing against ministry of truth

ALG urges the Senate to block the confirmation of Department of Homeland Security Undersecretary nominee Kenneth Wainstein

May 3, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging all senators to join Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) in blocking the confirmation of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Undersecretary nominee Kenneth Wainstein:

“Senator Paul struck a blow for the First Amendment today when he blocked the confirmation of DHS Undersecretary nominee Kenneth Wainstein. The revelation that the Department has set up a Disinformation Governance Board prompted Senator Paul to use his power to put a hold on the Wainstein nomination. Every Senator who is concerned about the federal government establishing a ministry of truth should join Senator Paul in his effort to stop this unconscionable abuse of power.

Rip DHS and CISA’s Disinformation Governance Board out by the roots

ALG urges Congress to defund DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency disinformation analysis and dissemination to private sector authorities

April 29, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging Congress to defund part of 6 U.S. Code § 121(d)(6), which authorizes the Department of Homeland Security and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to disseminate information to the private sector including social media to combating disinformation:

“Members of Congress who are outraged by the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board are right. Unfortunately, Congress made a grievous mistake in 2018 when it unanimously passed legislation which allows the Department of Homeland Security to be prosecutor, judge and jury on political speech under the guise of combating disinformation. And now, it’s up to Congress to rip the sections of law which allow political speech to be censored by DHS out by the roots by defunding this activity until the law can be more fully amended.

“The existence of this unholy alliance between government and social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon, etc. explains their unified messaging on Covid, Russiagate and perhaps even the Hunter Biden laptop, which was labeled Russian disinformation by former intelligence officials. One wondered how it was possible that the social media giants fell in lockstep on many controversial issues in banning unapproved speech, and deplatforming Parler, former President Donald Trump, frontline doctors and many others, and now we know who’s responsible.”

“To disseminate, as appropriate, information analyzed by the Department within the Department, to other agencies of the Federal Government with responsibilities relating to homeland security, and to agencies of State and local governments and private sector entities with such responsibilities in order to assist in the deterrence, prevention, preemption of, or response to, terrorist attacks against the United States.” 6 U.S. Code § 121(d)(6) https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/6/121

“The [Mis, Dis, Malinformation] MDM team serves as a switchboard for routing disinformation concerns to appropriate social media platforms and law enforcement. This activity began in 2018, supporting state and local election officials to mitigate disinformation about the time, place, and manner of voting. For the 2020 election, CISA expanded the breadth of reporting to include other state and local officials and more social media platforms. This activity leverages the rapport the MDM team has with the social media platforms to enable shared situational awareness.” https://www.cisa.gov/mdm

ALG urges no vote on FTC nominee Alvaro Bedoya

April 26, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging a no vote on Federal Trade Commission nominee Alvaro Bedoya:

“Americans for Limited Government urges a no vote on Federal Trade Commission nominee Alvaro Bedoya. While the FTC is an obscure agency to many, it is actually one of the most powerful in the U.S. government with the capacity to destroy corporations with antitrust actions. With the hard left devastated by Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, now the pressure on the Biden administration to salvage Twitter’s censorship algorithms through any means available. The FTC has the power to investigate and disrupt virtually any transaction like Musk’s under the guise of antitrust. The partisan balance of power at the FTC (and also the SEC) is at stake, and no senator should trust the Biden administration not to use the full weight of the federal government to restore the left’s censorship regime. Bedoya was discharged from committee without any evaluation of how he would deal with this particular issue. If nothing else, his nomination should be sent back to committee for further evaluation. Absent that, there is no excuse for voting to confirm Alvaro Bedoya to the FTC.”

Utah Governor Cox and Congressional delegation praised for opposing woke bond rating

April 21, 2022, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Gov. Spencer Cox (R-Utah) and the Utah Congressional delegation for demanding that S&P withdraw Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) consideration in issuing state bond ratings:

“We praise Utah Governor Spencer Cox and the Utah Congressional delegation for standing up against the political weaponization of state and municipal bond ratings from S&P and other credit rating agencies. A political calculation of a state’s bond rating based on arbitrary Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors has nothing to do with a state’s ability to service its debt. Every governor across the nation should join Governor Cox  in demanding that S&P Global end the political weaponization of the bond rating process. Additionally, every state and municipality should withdraw any public employee pension investments or other state investments that are primarily rated based upon their ESG ratings.”
