President Trump should #ReleaseTheMemo and all supporting documents

Feb. 1, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging President Donald Trump to not only #ReleaseTheMemo, but all of its supporting documentation:

D.C. Circuit ruling on CFPB an affront to consumers and small businesses

Jan. 31, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement blasting a ruling by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of the single directorship of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau:

“Today’s decision by the Court is an affront to the many consumers and small businesses who have suffered greatly at the hands of a rogue agency that was supposed to protect consumers from financial abuse. In fact, it was the CFPB’s lack of oversight protection by Congress and the President which allowed Richard Cordray to use the agency as a bank to curry favor with and fund left-wing activist groups as he prepared to run for governor of Ohio. No federal agency should ever be free from transparency and accountability and today’s decision did nothing but reaffirm the public’s distrust of and disdain for our government.”

ALG praises decision by House Intelligence Committee to vote to #ReleasetheMemo

Jan. 29, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s decision to hold a vote to release its memorandum detailing abuses of the FISA system during the Obama administration including illegal spying on the Trump campaign during the 2016 campaign:

“The decision by the House Intelligence Committee to vote to #ReleasetheMemo is a win for the Constitution and transparency and stopping future abuses of power where an administration illegally spies on the opposition party. The fact that cannot be ignored is that one of the leading members of the liberal Republican Tuesday Group, U.S. Rep. Peter King, has been at the forefront of getting the facts out to the American people. Rep. King has been one of the staunchest supporters of U.S. national security interests and his leading on this issue should tell everyone that the violations that have been uncovered pose a far greater danger to our nation than any other purported concerns to do with disclosure.”

House must #ReleasetheMemo immediately

Jan. 29, 2017, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence to release its memorandum detailing illegal spying into the Trump campaign in 2016 that was carried over into 2017 after President Donald Trump won the election:

“The House Intelligence Committee should vote to #ReleasetheMemo immediately, and seek immediate approval from the President to move forward with full disclosure. The public has a right to know if intelligence agencies and the Justice Department utilized illegal spying against the Trump campaign in 2016, with the goal of altering the election results and providing an ‘insurance policy’ against a Trump presidency, and then carried over the investigation into 2017 after he won. Every American whether they are liberal or conservative must stand united against the unacceptable politicization of the intelligence agencies and federal bureaucracy, which subverts the Constitution, the will of the electorate and therefore the consent of the governed. It’s time to #ReleasetheMemo into the public domain and its corroborating documents so everyone can determine the severity of the situation and what if any actions need to be taken moving forward.

“This could be the greatest constitutional crisis the nation has faced since the Civil War, and the next year of the Trump presidency should be spent working with Congress to clean up this mess to ensure that the people’s constitutionally protected rights are restored even as we move further into the technologization of our society. It is my hope that the Nunes memo only shows modest amounts of corruption. It is my fear that it’s worse than anyone could have imagined. Either way, the politicization of the Justice Department, FBI and intelligence services is unacceptable in a free society and safeguards must be put in place to prevent this from ever happening again.”

If Trump listens, he will scrap catastrophic DACA deal

Jan. 26, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging President Donald Trump to reject the recently announced DACA deal that trades away amnesty, citizenship and ten years of chain migration and visa lottery for an eventual “end” to the program:

“Last week, I told the Washington Post, ‘If Donald Trump signs a DACA deal, caves on this thing, on the one-year anniversary of his presidency, it ends his presidency for all intents and purposes. There is no reason for the blue-collar Democrats who voted for Trump last time to come out again.’

“Now that the White House has released the framework of a deal that not only provides amnesty for 1.8 million illegal aliens with a pathway to citizenship, it also allows for 4 million more people to come in through the chain migration and visa lottery programs over the next decade.  If the ‘deal’ survives five Congresses, and at least one other president, only then would chain migration end. This is not only a bad deal, it’s a disastrous deal.

“First, President Trump providing amnesty is his ‘read my lips’ moment, giving his political opponents a major victory while destroying his own credibility with those trust him. The practical implication will be the inevitable Electoral College loss of Arizona, Texas and Florida for Republicans, eliminating any pathway to the presidency for a future GOP candidate and creating a permanent Democrat majority in Congress. We have seen what happens when that occurred in California, where single-party Democrat rule has turned the Golden State into what some are calling the poverty capital of the U.S., one ridden with tent cities.

“As President Trump returns from his triumphant visit at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he must listen to his blue-collar base that elected him and scrub this bad, bad deal that was announced in his absence. If this deal passes, without the Trump base showing up to vote, the midterms will be a bloodbath.”

Big win for Attorney General Sessions on lost and found FBI text messages, now House must release the memo

Jan. 25, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans praising Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Justice Department Office of Inspector General for recovering the lost FBI text messages, and urging the House Intelligence Committee to immediately vote to release its own memo detailing abuses of the FISA system:

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions said he would ‘leave no stone unturned’ in producing the 5 months of missing FBI text messages, and today the Inspector General delivered on that promise. This is exactly the kind of transparency the entire Department of Justice should embrace and has to embrace in order to restore public confidence in these institutions. Attorney General Sessions stood up for America’s right to know and results followed.

“Similarly, the Department of Justice has nothing to fear of the House Intelligence Committee release of its memo detailing abuses of the FISA system it has found. If the Obama era Justice Department did nothing wrong, the current Justice Department has nothing to fear. And if abuses occurred, then sunlight is the best disinfectant. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein met with Speaker Paul Ryan in the past many days attempting to submarine the release of the documents that led to the formulation of the memo, and to Ryan’s credit, he stood behind his committee chairman’s lawful subpoena and Congress’ Article I oversight responsibility.

“Now it is critical that the House Intelligence Committee memo be released immediately, along with all corroborating documentation, so that the American people will have incontrovertible evidence to weigh in determining whether there was an attempt to subvert the peaceful transfer of power and those who were behind it, and Congress can institute the necessary reforms so this never happens again.”

President Trump puts America first at Davos

Jan. 25, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising President Donald Trump for putting America first at the globalization summit at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland:

“The World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland is to globalists as the Burning Man Festival is to California hippies, an irresistible flame to which they are drawn. President Donald Trump’s arrival in Davos has created a nervous excitement amongst the world’s economic elite jet set as they anticipate the most powerful man in the world declaring their policies a failure. Ironically, the International Monetary Fund has upgraded prospects for world economic growth precisely because of the President’s just-passed tax cuts that are raising wages and creating jobs. Hopefully, the gathering will listen to the President and understand that a flourishing American economy means a booming global economy. The greatest fear of those in attendance is that the President will reassert his determination to put America first by engaging in and enforcing bilateral, fair and reciprocal trade agreements, rather than the massive multinational deals preferred by his predecessors that were designed to put America last.”

Indian PM Modi talks big on trade. Does he mean it?

Jan. 23, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for President Rick Manning today issued the following statement blasting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at Davos, Switzerland in which he said, “Many societies and countries are becoming more and more focused on themselves… It feels like the opposite of globalization is happening. The negative impact of this kind of mind-set and wrong priorities cannot be considered less dangerous than climate change or terrorism… Everyone is talking about an interconnected world, but we will have to accept the fact that globalization is slowly losing its luster… [In its place] the forces of protectionism are raising their heads against globalization. Their intention is not just to avoid globalization, but to reverse its natural flow… The solution to this worrisome situation against globalization is not isolation. The solution is in understanding and accepting change”:

“India’s Prime Minister Nanendra Modi is the ultimate hypocrite. His nation, with the sixth largest economy in the world, gets the benefit of the same trade rules as Bangladesh, and has benefitted from $4.7 billion of General System of Preferences plus another $28 billion of foreign direct investment from the U.S. in 2016 alone. While India benefits from its own protectionist policies, with high tariffs, intellectual property theft and forced price controls for those who invest in India, Modi wants to lecture the world as if India was some pinnacle of free trade.

“President Donald Trump has held out a hand of friendship to the Indian government during his first year in office and given Modi’s new-found interest in rolling back protectionism, Trump should open the door to a bilateral U.S.-India trade deal by removing India from the GSP and closing the door on India’s grotesque trade barriers forever. We are glad that Prime Minister Modi has seen the light and wishes to join the developed world in free, fair and reciprocal trade — now he needs to show that his Make in India isn’t just a public relations fraud.”

Study: ‘Regulatory entrapment’ of ‘Make in India’ campaign

Jan. 23, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government Foundation today published a paper by Alex Holcomb, Assistant Professor of Finance at the College of Business Administration, University of Texas at El Paso criticizing the “Make in India” program as “India [is] imposing price controls, demanding technological transfers, and instituting other manifestations of non-tariff barriers once investments are undertaken. The campaign therefore often amounts to little more than regulatory entrapment.”

In a statement, Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning blasted the program, saying, “Davos is the coming out party for the government of India as a leading world trade partner. And while the U.S. should welcome India’s step forward, we must recognize the obstacles the government there has to overcome to end the cycle of regulatory entrapment, intellectual property theft and other tariff and non-tariff trade barriers. India, the sixth largest economy in the world, is ready to exit the General System of Preferences, designed for developing countries, and truly participate in the global economy.”

Manning urged President Donald Trump to use his trip to Davos, Switzerland to get a better deal: “With President Trump headed to Davos, Switzerland, this would be a great opportunity to initiate talks with India to pursue a bilateral, reciprocal trade relationship that protects U.S. investments in India, while growing both economies.”

Trump keeps promise as Samsung & LG trade cheaters get punished

Jan. 22, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising President Donald Trump for instituting tariffs on Samsung and LG washing machines after they were being dumped into U.S. markets:

“Samsung and LG had a plan.  Dump washing machines onto the U.S. market in contravention of the South Korea-US free trade agreement, to grow market share.  They were caught three times by U.S. trade authorities and this time, under President Trump, they got punished. Free trade agreements only work when they are respected and President Trump showed that he will carry a big stick if a company tries to cheat on trade deals.”
