Senate Should Work Seven Days A Week To Confirm Trump Nominees

Feb. 4, 2025, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the U.S. Senate to work seven days a week to get President Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees confirmed:

“It is the week of Feb. 4, and so far the Senate has gotten around to confirming nine of President Donald Trump’s nominees into office with a few more to come this week despite having a 53 to 47 Republican majority that is owed in no small part to Trump’s popularity in the 2024 election in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

“The truth is, there are about 1,300 positions in the administration that ultimately require Senate confirmation by law, resulting in Presidents resorting to appointing acting officials until permanent selections can be made. At the current rate — nine confirmations in 16 days, or 0.56 confirmations per day — the Senate will only be able to confirm about 200 administration officials per year, or 800 of the 1,300 for the entire four years of President Trump’s second term. They’d never complete the process.

“As it is, at the current rate, it will take about ten more days just to get the 15 cabinet secretaries confirmed, to say nothing of the deputies, assistants to the secretary and agencies that also need to be staffed.

“The Senate should work seven days a week until the Trump cabinet is confirmed, including all of the deputies and assistants needed so that the executive branch can move at the speed of Trump. That means the Senate needs to move at the speed of Silicon Valley to get the President’s team in place so they can implement the Trump agenda.”

Foreign Policy At The Speed Of President Trump

Feb. 3, 2025, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their determination in ending illegal migrations into the U.S. and securing the Panama Canal:

“President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s emphasis on the North American continent threats to our nation’s security and the progress made in the first two weeks of the administration are nothing short of astounding and outstanding.

China’s influence in central and South America accelerated exponentially during the Biden administration with Panama effectively ceding management of the national security critical Panama Canal to the Communist Chinese and a Sino-Panamanian partnership through the Belt and Road Initiative.

President Trump made the decision to prioritize ending Chinese influence over the only water passageway between the east and west coast of America, the Panama Canal, and dispatched newly confirmed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Panama City to negotiate a solution. The immediate result is Panama’s President decided to bring the Belt and Road initiative partnership to an end, choosing positive relations with the United States which will ensure the central American country’s economic growth.

“President Trump’s clearly stated foreign policy objective was masterfully executed by Secretary Rubio in one of the first major policy wins of the administration.

“At the same time, President Trump’s threatened tariffs on Mexico over illegal human and drug trafficking have led the Mexican government to agree to send 10,000 troops to the border to help control cartel activity on their northern border along with some other measures designed to stem the flood of deadly fentanyl into America.

“President Trump responded to the Mexican action by pausing the imposition of 25% tariffs for a month while Rubio and other administration leaders meet with the Mexican government to establish a permanent, sustainable solution that secures the border and ends the drug cartels’ shipments of fentanyl to the U.S.

“Two weeks and President Trump has two major foreign policy victories which directly impact on the lives of every day Americans. That’s moving at the speed of Trump.”

ALG Urges Confirmation Of Kash Patel For FBI Director

Jan. 29, 2025, Fairfax, Va.–Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the Senate to confirm Kash Patel as the next FBI Director:

“Kash Patel is uniquely qualified to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation due to his having been subject to its political weaponization. Patel served as a staffer to then-House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes when Chairman Nunes took on the entire intelligence community’s false Russia collusion narrative. Current Senate Judiciary Commitee Chairman Chuck Grassley has been at the forefront of the fight to expose high-ranking, politicized FBI and Justice Department officials demanding accountability and being stonewalled every step of the way. Kash Patel as FBI Director working with Chairman Grassley will finally shed the light of truth on the corruption, end the political weaponization and restore the impartial rule of law at the FBI.”

Trump Prosecution Ends In Whimper

Jan. 10, 2025, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement reacting to the sentencing of President-elect Donald Trump in New York City:

“The political prosecution of President Donald Trump by rogue New York City District Attorney Alvin Bragg in collusion with the financially compromised Judge Juan Merchan has come to the end with whimper, as the decision was made not to sentence Trump with any fines or jail time from the case. The question New York City voters should ask themselves is why their resources were used to prosecute this political expedition rather than being focused on putting real criminals in New York City away and making the streets safer. Bragg and Merchan have put a permanent black eye on the justice system in the city of New York through their politically motivated prosecution of Trump, whose only mistake was helping build and live in Manhattan and running for president.”

ALG Urges Single Budget Reconciliation Bill To Enact Trump Agenda: ‘Get It Done’

Jan. 9, 2025, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging Congress to follow President-elect Donald Trump’s advice and to pass everything in his agenda in a single budget reconciliation bill this year:

“Trump is right. If Republicans truly want to achieve significant fixes to the border, taxes, energy and draining the swamp, they need to consolidate as much as Senate rules allow into one big Budget Reconciliation bill. There is no guarantee that an historically small GOP House majority will hold ten months from now, so the House should shoot for the moon now, while President Trump is most powerful. Get it done.”

ALG urges election of Speaker Mike Johnson

Jan. 2, 2025, Fairfax, Va.–Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging House Republicans to reelect House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Jan. 3:

“President Trump’s entire Congressional agenda is at risk on day one of the new Congress when House Republicans decide whether to elect Trump-endorsed Speaker Mike Johnson or embark on yet another suicidal quest for the perfect Speaker. While it is understandable for many House conservatives to be disappointed that the past Congress did not do more to limit the size and scope of government, the only opportunity to move the aggressive Trump Make America Great Again agenda is through unity that will be forever shattered by a Speaker fight. Americans voted to end President Biden’s crazy, leftist policies and to cut government’s intrusive reach into their lives. If House Republicans want to legislatively end Biden’s immigration disaster, they need to stay the course with Speaker Johnson. If House Republicans want to reinstate and expand job-creating tax cuts, they must stay the course with Speaker Johnson. If House Republicans want to truly permanently downsize the federal government, they need to stay the course with Speaker Johnson. However, if they are unwilling to get 75% to 80% of their agenda passed in search of a unicorn, they will engage in a quixotic Speaker fight chasing windmills rather than getting the job done.”

Kids Online Safety Act: A Threat to Freedom and Truth

Dec. 19, 2024, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging Congress to reject the Kids Online Safety Act:

Censorship is an ugly word. Over the past decade, our nation has witnessed federal agents pressuring social media platforms to suppress, remove, and prohibit user content on several critical topics. These include valid treatment options for COVID-19, concerns about election integrity, the now-debunked Russian collusion narrative, and the incriminating revelations from Hunter Biden’s laptop, to name just a few examples.

Now, under the pretense of protecting children from “harmful,” non-government-approved content, Congress is considering a last-minute push to grant the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) unprecedented authority to decide what children should or should not access.

Believe it or not, this proposal also allows each state’s Attorney General to sue social media platforms over content they disapprove of. This can only end badly.

For instance, consider the state of California. With its radical policies on gender identity and transition, California could wield this new authority to suppress dissenting voices. Facts and moral objections to these policies could be censored, preventing children—who are directly impacted by such initiatives—from accessing vital information. California law already prohibits teachers and school officials from notifying parents about “gender-related decisions” made at school, effectively preventing parents from intervening and opposing these psychological attacks against their children.

Giving content censorship powers to a state that already censors parents from receiving information about state-conducted changes to their children’s biology would be insane. Yet that is precisely what the deceptively named KIDS ONLINE SAFETY ACT would do.

Stop this bill now and let President Trump and the next Republican Congress act to protect children without granting powers that would destroy those children’s ability to access information and empower themselves against those who seek to prey upon them.

ALG Praises Re-Introduction Of MERIT Act To Hold Federal Employees Accountable

Dec. 17, 2024, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the re-introduction of the Modern Employment Reform, Improvement and Transformation (MERIT) Act by U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), which has been cosponsored by U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) and nine other House members:

“The MERIT Act will allow federal civil service managers to fast track the firing of incompetent, insubordinate and/or recalcitrant employees. This is necessary to ensure that the federal workforce succeeds in its mission to serve the American taxpayer.  After all, you cannot drain the swamp if you cannot fire the swamp.”

ALG Praises Senate For Blocking NLRB Power Grab

Dec. 12, 2024, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the U.S. Senate for blocking the confirmation of Lauren McFerran to chair the National Labor Relations Board:

“The U.S. Senate blocking Lauren McFerran to chair the National Labor Relations Board is a major victory for President-elect Donald Trump, and stymied an end of presidency power play to keep Democrat control over the board by President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in the lame duck session. We look forward President Trump’s choice to chair the NLRB and thank the Senate for respecting the will of the American people.”
