Statement by Richard Manning, President of Americans for Limited Government, in response to today’s hearing on California Assembly Bill 539

April 1, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in opposition to A.B. 539 in the California Assembly:

“California has a major housing and homelessness crisis, and A.B. 539 will only exacerbate these problems by severely restricting access to credit for many Californians either on the brink of homelessness or working to get off the streets. This legislation will also hurt small-dollar lenders in the same way the Dodd-Frank financial reform caused financial institutions to cut back on products and services due to increased compliance costs. It is perplexing that in a State that calls itself home to ground breaking technology and innovation, legislators are working to try and block access to critical consumer lending services to those who are falling through the cracks of the system. I hope that this bill is defeated so that the most economically vulnerable among us don’t have state created financial services discrimination pushing them into homelessness and keeping them there.”

Mr. Manning grew up in southern California, attending Norco High School, Riverside City College and the University of Southern California. Americans for Limited Government is a group dedicated to restoring constitutionally limited government. For more information, visit:  https://getliberty.org/

Strong American labor market, low inflation and rising wages more important than GDP revision

March 28, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement on the latest revision to 2018 GDP growth:

“It is always precarious to react to economic data in real-time as we know revisions will be made that alter the analysis. Unfortunately, while the overall state of the economy remains strong, the first revision of the fourth quarter GDP in 2018 lowers the reported economic growth.

“The new data takes annual GDP down to 2.86 percent and Q4 to Q4 GDP down to 2.97 percent. That’s no better than 2015 from the annual perspective, and no better than 2014 Q1 to 2015 Q1 from the consecutive four quarters perspective. If you have to round up to get to 3 percent, you didn’t get to 3 percent.

“That said, the U.S. economy remains in strong shape, with the best labor market since the turn of the century, wages particularly for blue collar workers increasing significantly while inflation remains low. Declining food stamp usage underscores that millions of Americans are being lifted out of poverty. Ultimately, and where it matters most, the Trump economy is performing optimally, creating new opportunities for the vast majority of Americans.”

Green New Deal fails as ALG urges support for IMO regulation

March 26, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the Senate for defeating the Green New Deal 57 to 0:

“The Senate vote to stop Democrat attempts to return our national economy to the 19th century through the Green New Deal is a relief.  However, there is one common sense regulation that everyone should be able to get behind, the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization rule called IMO 2020.  IMO 2020 would change the fuel burnt by cargo ships around the world from the sulfur laden bunker oil to a lower sulfur mix.

“It is reported that a mere 16 of the largest cargo ships emit more sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere each year than the 80 million automobiles in the world.  These ships account for 15 percent of all of the SO2 pollution worldwide, and the IMO 2020 regulation would significantly limit that pollution output.  What’s more, U.S. oil refineries are best equipped for creating the new fuel mixture cargo ships will require — meaning IMO 2020 is one environmental regulation which actually helps both the environment and our national economy.

“The Green New Deal is a bad, bad deal, and it is great that it has been dealt a mortal blow in the Senate. Hopefully, our nation can join together in supporting a measure which actually will have an impact on air quality around the world in IMO 2020.”

Green New Deal would cost America everything

March 26, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging the Senate to reject the Green New Deal in a vote being held later today:

“The Green New Deal will cost our nation everything: The ability of individuals to choose the way they travel, food choices at the dinner table, restricted home electricity consumption, how we build our homes, offices and every building in the country, ending speedy delivery of most of our purchases and so forth. It is a takeover of very aspect of our lives and the economy, ending individual free market choices. The Green New Deal turns what is supposed to be a constitutionally limited federal government into an all-powerful Leviathan. Proponents say they want to get to net zero carbon emissions in 10 years, and we should take them seriously. Socialism’s historic failure is rooted in the fact that it inherently deprives people of freedom, choice, property and opportunity. The Green New Deal is yet another rationale for a failed system that results in enslavement and deprivation of the people — and it must be rejected.”

Everyone knew there was no collusion in Jan. 2017

Only full disclosure will uncover who foisted the Russia collusion hoax on the American people.

March 25, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement reminding everyone that it should have been clear in Jan. 2017 that there was no Russia collusion:

“It took Robert Mueller almost two years to come to the conclusion that was obvious on Jan. 10, 2017 before President Trump was even inaugurated, when Buzzfeed published the DNC-Clinton-campaign-financed dossier, that there was no collusion by the Trump campaign with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election. What there was, was a partisan fabrication, the dossier, that the FBI used as a basis to spy on the Trump campaign. The attached article published Jan. 12, 2017 by Americans for Limited Government entitled ‘Did Obama politicize false intel to portray Trump as a Manchurian Candidate?’ pretty much sums up what we know today, which is that there was no collusion. It was plain as day in 2017 based on publicly available information at the time that Christopher Steele’s allegations were false. The idea that this investigation was ‘necessary’ is fallacious. The Obama administration used false intelligence to spy on the opposition party, the Trump campaign, during the election campaign. This is why full disclosure of everything that led to the use of this dossier and related to this investigation is needed because the topline of no collusion should not surprise anyone. This must never happen again.”

Senate should appoint a new Church Committee to expose Russia collusion hoax

March 25, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to hold a vote to appoint a select committee to investigate to perpetrated the Russia collusion hoax on the American people:

“Senate Majority Leader McConnell needs to empanel a special select committee to fully investigate the intelligence agency abuses within the Obama administration that carried over into 2017 and beyond to perpetrate the Russia collusion hoax on the American people. We need a new Church committee. The FISA court system was set up as a result of intelligence agency abuses in the 1960s and 1970s as a means to prevent this sort of thing from happening. It failed. The Obama administration’s politicization of the career foreign intelligence and counterintelligence operations, spying on the opposition party in an election year, has effectively destroyed public confidence in these institutions. The American people need to know who perpetrated this hoax, whoever they are, and make certain this never happens again.”

No conspiracy or coordination with Russia on election interference, no obstruction of justice clears President Trump of wrongdoing

March 24, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s determination that “[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities” and Attorney General William Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s determination finding “no actions that, in our judgment, constitute obstructive conduct, had a nexus to a pending or contemplated proceeding, and were done with corrupt intent, each of which, under the Department’s principles of federal prosecution guiding charging decisions, would need to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt to establish an obstruction-of justice offense”

“Attorney General William Barr’s letter to Congress on Robert Mueller’s special counsel final report on the Russia collusion investigation makes it clear that the President and all his team are unambiguously exonerated from having anything to do with Russian interference in the 2016 election.  Mueller’s report, according to Barr, acknowledges that this alleged Russia collusion was a ‘primary consideration for the Special Counsel’s investigation…’

“This should end forever the Democratic Party created fantasy that President Trump and his campaign were in some way working with the Russians to impact the results of 2016 presidential election.

“However, many will cling to the idea that somehow the President ‘obstructed justice’ in this process as Mueller neither exonerates nor condemns the actions of the President or any member of his team in his report leaving that determination to the Attorney General.  Attorney General William Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein make it clear in their letter to Congress that there was no obstruction of justice, exonerating the President and his team due to the fact that the essential elements of obstruction of justice were not found by the Special Counsel, including most importantly any underlying crime to obstruct.

“Regardless of the Mueller report and the Attorney General’s findings, the left will continue to cry obstruction of justice in the months ahead in an attempt to save face for dragging the nation through two years of doubt about the legitimacy of the Trump presidency. In doing so, the Democrats and some never Trumpers will be making the underlying claim that an innocent person targeted in a criminal investigation has no right to defend themselves publicly during the course of that investigation.  This is absurd on its face and is nothing more than an attempt to obscure their own roles in this sordid attempt to take down a duly elected President.

“In light of the Mueller findings, the President should immediately pardon anyone who was convicted of a process crime resulting from the Mueller investigation, and the Attorney General should begin work on getting to the bottom of who perpetrated this Russia collusion fraud on the American public and begin the process of prosecuting them with the same vigor exhibited against the President and his team.”

Mueller turns in final report without any Russia collusion prosecutions of any Americans

March 22, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement responding to Special Counsel Robert Mueller turning in his final report to Attorney General William Barr without any prosecutions for Russia collusion:

“Robert Mueller’s providing a final report to Attorney General William Barr ends almost three years of investigation into candidate and then President Donald Trump in relation to Russia. Every media outlet owes President Trump a non-stop apology for their continued claims that there was a conspiracy and that his presidency was illegitimate. Mueller ended his investigation with zero prosecutions of Trump campaign officials for conspiracy with Russia to hack the DNC and Podesta emails.

“This false narrative driven by a toxic combination of the Clinton campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Obama Justice Department, State Department, FBI, CIA and other foreign policy intelligence operatives demands that Attorney General Barr either immediately prosecute those involved in this destructive attack on our constitutional system of governance and the electoral process.

“Many of the facts are already in the public domain but justice demands declassification of the internal Department of Justice documents used to justify this attempt to overthrow the results of a presidential election.”

Whatever happened to the U.S. Attorney investigations into the Deep State and the Clinton Foundation?

March 19, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging Attorney General William Barr to follow through on the investigation of FBI misconduct during the 2016 presidential campaign, during the transition and during the Trump administration:

“Then Attorney General Jeff Sessions directed the U.S. Attorney of Little Rock, Arkansas to investigate various corruption charges against the Clinton Foundation and the U.S. Attorney of Salt Lake City to investigate the malfeasance within the Justice Department related to the attempt to undo the results of the 2016 presidential election.

“It has been almost a full year since it was learned that the investigation into potential Justice Department misdeeds was being conducted by U.S. Attorney John Huber, and it is time that new Attorney General William Barr follow through on the investigation and prosecute any wrongdoers to the fullest extent of the law.  One of the reasons that the investigation was housed in Salt Lake City was to take it out of the glare of the D.C. media and allow a thorough job to be done.  However, it would be a disservice to the nation if the current AG did not aggressively push this investigation with those responsible for abusing their authority brought to justice.

“One simple example is the abuse of the Christopher Steele dossier paid for by the DNC and the Clinton campaign as the basis for obtaining FISA court warrants against Trump campaign, transition and political appointees, when Steele himself testified under oath that he used unverified Internet rumors in the report.  At the same time former FBI Director James Comey was testifying to Congress that the Steele dossier was ‘salacious and unverified,’ Comey was signing documents using that same report to obtain warrants. Either he was lying to the FISA Court or he was lying to Congress, either way perjury was committed, and the former FBI Director should be subjected to the full weight of the law as a result.

“The United States is a nation of laws, and the revelation that the Obama Administration’s Justice Department sought to tip the scales toward their own partisan ends should chill every American regardless of partisan affiliation.  If those responsible are not prosecuted, then it will be clear to future Administrations that there is no personal downside to election tampering and abuse of power and this current dark moment of abuse by our intelligence agencies will be viewed as an acceptable risk in the quest for power.  This can never be allowed again, and it is time for the new Attorney General to begin bringing light onto the initial finding of the investigations in Little Rock and Salt Lake City.”

Trump budget will end federal funding for Corporation for Public Broadcasting

March 18, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in support of a provision of President Donald Trump’s budget that will phase out and end federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting by the end of 2021:

“The Trump budget would end federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, with $60 million over 2020 and 2021 being used for close-out costs and transitioning to a non-federally funded model. This limits the size and scope of government and gets Washington, D.C. out of the business of broadcasting in the streaming age with thousands of options for programming on television, the computer and radio. The fact is stations that directly benefit from CPB whether on NPR or PBS can survive on their own without federal dollars. Public television stations only get about 15 percent of their money from the federal government. They won’t miss it, and might even raise more money without it by losing the stigma of being publicly funded.

“If Congress won’t end this extravagance when our $22 trillion national debt poses an existential threat to our nation, it is hard to imagine them making much harder choices in the future. There is simply no reason not to embrace ending funding for a vanity program that is self-sustaining without taxpayer dollars.  President Trump has provided a 15-year pathway to balance and Congress would be well served to get aggressive on their Excel spreadsheets and cut even more to save our nation from fiscal ruin.”
