ALG praises FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioner Brendan Carr for endorsing Sprint-T-Mobile merger

May 20, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioner Brendan Carr for endorsing the Sprint-T-Mobile merger:

“Today’s statements of support for the Sprint-T-Mobile merger from both Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai and subsequently from Commissioner Brendan Carr represent a major step toward approval of this important consolidation which significantly expands the availability and build out speed for the next generation of wireless communications.

“America would be cast into an almost permanent economic disadvantage in competing for future business without widely available, competitively priced 5G technology and today’s announcement brings our nation one-step closer to a near nationwide buildout (99 percent) within five years of the final merger approval.  This ensures that rural areas, which have been consistently left behind when it comes to Internet speed, gain the advantages of 5G within a short time window which is essential to growing economic opportunities in these, many times, forgotten areas.

“Today’s statements by Chairman Pai and Commissioner Carr affirms a determination that no one will be left behind when it comes to the 21st century economy, and they are commended for taking this important step forward.”
