May 16, 2014, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Nathan Mehrens today issued the following statement urging the White House immediately fire Veteran Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki:
“The culture at the VA that allowed career bureaucrats to decide that health care rationing was an acceptable alternative must be changed, and Shinseki has proven that he is wrong person for the job.
“The death of at least 40 veterans waiting to see a doctor in Phoenix, complete with a secret list of patients who were determined to be too ill to help, were denied care, and died, is a deplorable abomination and insult to every man and woman who has ever served. Secretary Shinseki should be fired immediately. The decent care of our nation’s veterans is the least the federal government can do for those who sacrificed everything to defend their country.”
