Impeachment of District of Columbia Judge Tanya Chutkan urged

Oct. 18, 2024, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement blasting federal judge Tanya Chutkan for unsealing documents related to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case against former President Donald Trump:

“Today’s release of the appendix to deep state prosecutor Jack Smith’s immunity motion by federal judge Tanya Chutkan is just one more example of the politicization of America’s justice system, and when the GOP wins control of the House, Senate and White House, it is imperative that they take action to ensure that this abuse of power never happens again.

“There are two big steps that need to be taken to end the partisan political control of prosecutions in the District of Columbia.  The first would be to file articles of impeachment against Chutkan on day one of the new Congress and most importantly act upon them.  Her actions throughout this case have been proof positive for anyone on the right that there is no justice if you are conservative.  The second and more important action would be to eliminate the District Court of appeals and restrict the federal judges in D.C. to overseeing the criminal justice needs of the District itself rather than playing national political arbiter in an electoral environment that in D.C. is more than 90 percent against people who support Trump.

“The truth is that the reason that the District of Columbia was formed and the residents were not given electoral representation was because they already had power through their close association with government and those who run it. Now, as the federal government has become a self-serving behemoth, it is time to end the judicial bias represented by having those who serve as the supposed neutral arbiters be bitter partisans. Chutkan’s craven, partisan political action combined with Jack Smith’s get Trump no matter where the facts lead prosecution have not only ripped the blindfold off of Lady Justice, but have given her shiners in both eyes to boot.

“Americans are constitutionally entitled to a system of justice where the federal government doesn’t use its immense power and unending money to engage in political harassment of any private citizen, let alone one who has served as President of the United States. Unfortunately, today’s extremely unorthodox release of Smith’s filings by a judge bent on trying to influence the presidential election is just one more reason why America has lost faith that there is equal protection under the law.  It is shameful, and when the GOP returns to D.C. victorious after Nov. 5, they have a constitutional responsibility to fix it.”
