Biden’s AG has no grounds for withholding President’s classified docs tapes

July 2, 2024, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the House Judiciary Committee’s lawsuit against President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland to release the audio recordings of Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur:

“If Richard Nixon could not establish executive privilege over his audio recordings in the Watergate case, there is no way Joe Biden can claim such a privilege that has surely been waived by public release of the transcripts of Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. The only outstanding issue is whether the American people get to listen to the audio. Given that Biden is facing an official impeachment inquiry, the Judiciary Committee’s subpoena that the recordings be provided must be treated similarly to other impeachment-oriented subpoenas. Biden has even no more grounds than Nixon did in withholding the Watergate tapes, which led directly to his resignation once released.”
