Reap what you sow, Gov. Cuomo

Fairfax, Va. – It is payback time for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who declared his state a sanctuary state and refused to obey federal immigration laws. Now many New York sheriffs are refusing to enforce his draconian Covid edicts.  Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning issued the following statement in reaction to these acts of civil disobedience:

“New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s sudden discovery that civil disobedience works both ways as local sheriffs are choosing not to enforce his draconian economic shutdown edicts is refreshing to Americans who watched in dismay as Cuomo and other far-left mayors and governors engaged in harboring illegal aliens from deportation.

“Cuomo and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, along with cities like San Francisco, Seattle and Portland, have set the predicate that local and state jurisdictions don’t have to follow federal law. In Seattle and Portland, they have refused to provide citizens with the protections promised by state law. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, with some localities and their citizens refusing to enforce or comply with emergency shutdown orders that destroy communities economically, endanger the mental health of their citizens and deny their children the opportunity to get a quality public education in defiance of federal health official recommendations, perhaps they understand that their power only extends as far as the people’s willingness to comply.  Mandates that have not been put through and legitimized by the legislative process are subject to refusal by those who would see their property rights and health jeopardized by them.

“As the Bible says, you reap what you sow, and for those elected officials who preached disobedience to federal enforcement of one of their basic constitutional responsibilities, they are now discovering the ugly truth that without the consent of the governed, they are like the emperor with no clothes, just foolish, vain, little potentates, naked for the world to see.”
