Fairfax, Va. – Americans for Limited Government president Rick Manning issued the following statement in support of President Trump’s announcement on Constitution Day that he will create a commission to promote “patriotic education” and establish a grant to develop a “pro-American curriculum.”
“The left has sold America a big lie. The lie is that politics has no place in our education system. This lie is always directed at conservatives who seek to have our American education system extol the virtues of our nation, while focusing upon the building blocks for critical thinking. Marxist academics succeeded in destroying these very values without any vote of the people or the consent of the governed.
“President Trump is 100% correct in his effort to reestablish the teaching of American foundational principles in our nation’s schools. While the New York Times and the Obama administration common core curriculum writers poison our students with a hate America narrative that runs through our history books, museums and formerly free press, President Trump’s actions are a good first step to teaching real American history to our children.
“The sad truth is that if those of us who know that America is the greatest country that God has ever put on this earth, creating more wealth and freeing more people from the shackles of government slavery than all previous nations combined, don’t stand up to the academic bullies to have this story of America told to our children, America will be lost.
“President Trump deserves a collective thank you from all Americans for taking this stand to begin to fight for the hearts and minds of our children against the torrent of hate spewed by those who profess to teach.”
