March 6, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement in response to the latest jobs numbers:
“Unemployment remains low as the number of Americans who can’t find a job who are actively searching for one remains at levels unseen since the year 2000. The strong labor market also continued to come through in employee paychecks with a 3 percent increase recorded on a year to year basis. With the unemployment rate continuing at a 50-year low 3.5 percent, and a Thursday, Labor Department report showing that the weekly unemployment insurance claims went down last week by 3,000, with the four-week average of the claims remaining below the levels recorded one year earlier, President Trump’s economic policies continue to deliver for the American people.
“Businesses also reported another massive increase in the number of jobs filled of 273,000, the second straight month with gains far exceeding the very strong 2019 job gain average of 176,000 jobs. While federal government hiring for the decennial census contributes to this growth, excluding U.S. government hiring still smashes the 2019 average. The Trump economy is paying off.”
