May 8, 2019, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement praising the House Freedom Caucus for standing in the way of any military construction bill that attempts to defund the southern border wall:
“Americans for Limited Government praises the House Freedom Caucus’ move to oppose military construction funding if it contains language blocking building the wall on the southern border. Democrats cannot have it both ways. After shutting down the government for 35 days to stop wall funding, they have recently concluded that there is a crisis at the border after all. In spite of this late to the game recognition, the fact is this flood of more than 100,000 illegals a month being apprehended on our southern border is a national security disaster. Unfortunately, now the same Democrats are trying to stop the military from being able to construct the wall that is needed to prevent a portion of these illegal entries. The House Freedom Caucus’ leadership in opposing this irresponsible prohibition will hopefully serve as a wakeup call to their colleagues in the Republican conference but also to any Democrat members who recognize both the humanitarian and security danger of the currently open border. ”
