Senate Dems must choose between radicals and constituents

Sept. 10, 2018, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging Senate Democrats to choose between radicals and constituents on the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation:

“Senators Jon Tester, Heidi Heitkamp, Joe Manchin, Joe Donnelly, Claire McCaskill, Doug Jones, Sherrod Brown and Bill Nelson have to decide if they are going to stand with the loony left in opposing Brett Kavanaugh, or with their constituents who will actually determine their fates in the November midterms. Red state Democrats are in a bind about what to do about Brett Kavanaugh, an extraordinary legal mind and jurist who has been nominated to serve on the Supreme Court. If they vote against Kavanaugh, they will have a hard time holding their seats in the November midterms as their veneer as civil Democrats will be forever stripped away. If they vote for him to save their own skins, they risk dispiriting their base and jeopardizing the so-called Blue Wave as voters see President Donald Trump chalk up another win with them bearing the responsibility.

“The antics and attacks on Kavanaugh witnessed during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing must be renounced as their Democrat colleagues, like Corey Booker from New Jersey, made gigantic spectacles of themselves, as did the Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer organized screaming protests in the Committee room.  America deserved a real discussion about the role of the federal courts in government, unfortunately, Senate Democrats did the nation a grave disservice this past week. Now, every Democratic Senator needs to choose whether they are going to stand with the outrageous protestors, or if they are going to stand with the common sense of the people who they purport to represent.”
