ALG President William Wilson Featured in the Baltimore Examiner

Voter dissatisfaction with the United States Congress was already dropping like a rock before the revelation that Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif., had been charged with assault and battery for allegedly shoving a female airline attendant when his luggage didn’t come out fast enough.

Sadly, Filner’s fury is only the latest manifestation of a growing Congressional contempt for the citizens it represents. And while it may not be as egregious an example as the $90,000 in cash federal agents found last year in the freezer of recently indicted Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., or the far-reaching abuses unearthed during the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, it is nonetheless symbolic of the same “do as I say, not as I do” mentality sending Congressional approval ratings to an all-time low.

Human Events: Conservative Spotlight - Americans for Limited Government

(JULY 19, 2007) -- In today’s atmosphere of big government, ever-expanding entitlement programs and bloated spending, Americans for Limited Government (ALG) is working to spread the principles of conservatism thought throughout the country.

ALG is headquartered in Fairfax, Va., just outside the beltway, giving the organization a good location from which to watch the activities of the federal government. According to Director of Communications Trent Willis, ALG works to reduce the overall size of government by supporting “fiscal accountability, caps on taxes and spending, and applying transparency standards on government actions.” Also, ALG supports anti-corruption measures, and ending the spending of tax money, often illegally, on creating political support for big government.

Congress' Assault on the 1st Amendment Continues
New legislation would outlaw private expenditures from general elections for the U.S. House of Representatives

FAIRFAX, VA (JULY 11 2007) - William Wilson, president of Americans for Limited Government (ALG), today attacked a proposal by Representatives David Obey (D-WI) and Barney Frank (D-MA) that would drastically limit free political speech by outlawing all private expenditures from general elections for the U.S. House of Representatives.

"This legislation goes directly against the Supreme Court's ruling in Wisconsin Right to Life v. FEC (2007)," said Wilson. "America was founded on the promise that 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.'”

Washington Times EXCLUSIVE: Shut Up, They Explained by William Wilson, ALG President

FAIRFAX, VA (JULY 3, 2007) -- Eleven score and eleven years ago, our founding founders declared America's independence from an oppressive regime and that her people would now "assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them."

According to that Declaration of July 4, 1776, the purpose of government is to safeguard our inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Constitution the founders later drafted therefore sought to secure those blessings "to ourselves and our posterity."

Neither document talks about securing office-holders from the hazards of political opposition.

In fact, the founders expected that government officers would eventually seek to violate freedom of speech and other critical liberties. So they added an explicit Bill of Rights in hopes of preventing such incursions. Freedom of assembly, religion, and speech are protected in the very first amendment of that Bill of Rights.

Blue Dog Democrats Challenging Conventional Political Wisdom
By William Wilson

As Congress struggles to restore some semblance of sanity to the “Whose Earmark Is It Anyway?” approach to budgeting that has taken Washington, D.C. by storm, it has become abundantly clear to fiscal conservatives that neither political party currently enjoys a monopoly on taxpayer protection.

Historically, the demarcation line between liberal tax-and-spenders and fiscally-conservative deficit hawks has adhered strictly to one’s party affiliation. Democrats support government that’s big, bloated and hopelessly unbalanced - or so we are led to believe - while Republicans ostensibly prefer less government, lower taxes and a budget that spends only what we take in. A Sad Day for Utah as Governor Signs Bill Allowing Seizure of Homes, Churches

Legal Action Possible After Governor Signs HB365

FAIRFAX, VA (March 21, 2007)…Utah’s current law limiting eminent domain was dealt a devastating blow when Governor Jon Huntsman signed House Bill 365 into law on Tuesday.

The bill, which would allow seizure of homes, business and properties as long as 80% of the neighbors and 2/3s of the agency board approve, had drawn the ire of community leaders and Americans for Limited Government, a non-profit organization that works to promote property rights and other civil liberties.

“This is a sad day for the people of Utah,” said Bill Wilson, President of Americans for Limited Government.

“This bill opens up the flood gates for city government officials to take any home, church or small business they want,” Wilson added. “You’ll see legal challenges when people realize this is a piece of unconstitutional legislation.”

Wilson ended his comments with a quote from former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson (1941-54). “The very purpose of a Bill of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy. One's right to life, liberty and property, to free speech, a free press, freedom of worship and assembly may not be submitted to vote; they depend on no elections.”

“The people of Utah oppose eminent domain for anything other than the best possible public use. It is a dark and sad day when their government allows their basic right to be put in jeopardy,” concluded Wilson.

LIBERTY NEWS NATIONWIDE

On Raising Taxes, Obama has a European Accent
“Obama proposes to let the Bush tax cuts expire, raise the top tax rate to 39.6 percent, remove the cap on income subject to Social Security levies, and set a top marginal rate of 55 percent on incomes of more than $250,000. Throw in state and local taxes for people living in high-tax states like Maryland, and the top marginal rate goes to 60 percent. Obama’s objective is to make the tax system “fairer” by redistributing wealth from “the rich” to everybody else.”

New York City to Strip Gun License from Disabled Vietnam Veteran

“The decision, handed down this week, is likely the first court ruling to deal with New York's gun-permitting scheme since the Supreme Court declared that the Second Amendment gives citizens an individual right to keep a gun at home for self-defense. The veteran who lost his gun license, Dominick DiNapoli, said the Supreme Court's decision ought to require that he gets back his gun permit.”
